Visiting Faculty – Midwifery Curriculum Expert & Educator – New York University 260 views0 applications

Background

Liberia aims to build a high-quality and sustainable health system, but faces a severe deficit of physicians, nurses, midwives, and other health care workers. In 2015, the Ministry of Health (MoH) developed the Health Workforce Program (HWP) to achieve targeted improvements in the quantity, quality and skill diversity of the national health workforce and to improve access to safe and quality health services in Liberia. One component of this includes recruitment and deployment of visiting faculty to fill gaps in health worker education and development of quality programs to train the next generation of Liberian faculty, nurses and midwives.

NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing (NYU Meyers) is a key US academic partner in the nursing and midwifery sector in Liberia, and works closely with the MoH, the Liberian Board of Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM) and various teaching institutions. NYU Meyers is currently recruiting for a Visiting Faculty (VF) member who will be embedded at Mother Patern College of Health Sciences (MPCHS) in Monrovia to work collaboratively with a host of stakeholders to ensure quality education in nursing and midwifery in Liberia.

The VF will also coordinate and advocate with the MoH to develop a sustainable plan for scholarships and for fulfilling gaps when midwifery faculty are at the master’s program. The VF is expected to collaborate with NYU Meyers and MPCHS leadership and faculty on overall initiatives that will enhance and improve the quality of nursing and midwifery education programs in Liberia. Contingent on funding, this position will be filled through calendar year 2018, with the potential to extend, contingent on further funding.

Work Location & Compensation:** The post will be embedded at MPCHS, located in the Liberian capital city of Monrovia. Travel within the country to rural and remote areas will be as requested and required by the MPCHS senior leadership and NYU Meyers. Housing and associated incidental and international travel costs will be covered by NYU Meyers; competitive salary and benefits.

Reporting:** The VF will report to the Senior Leadership at MPCHS for educational responsibilities and performance oversight. The VF will also report to NYU Meyers for both administration of the appointment, and to support the successful implementation of NYU Meyers’ program in Liberia. The VF will be responsible for submitting monthly and/or quarterly activity reports to the MPCHS and NYU Meyers on deliverables and other process indicators as defined per the HWP monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system.
