Samaritan’s Purse (SP) is currently implementing WASH Program in Gombora and Gibe woreda, Hosanna region with the objective of reducing the incidence of diarrheal and other related diseases among the most vulnerable populations. As part of the assignment the position holder is expected to identify, design and develop training materials/manuals for the WASH Committees’ management; design appropriate technologies (economical, durable and manageable scheme) for safe water supply and sanitation facilities, conduct base line survey and need assessment concerning water supply, and sanitation facilities and services. She /he is expected to liaise with communities, local authorities and other agencies regularly to ensure coordination and effective implementation activities and participate on meeting regarding WASH; collect data and statistics concerning issues that relates with water & sanitation and prepare and submit periodically.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in field assessments and surveys in order to map areas requiring new water sources or repairs.
  • Arrange and coordinate meetings with community leaders in collaboration with other WASH staff.
  • Provide program support and technical advice with an emphasis on WASH and other projects.
  • Maintain an overview of the country WASH program(s) and of the regional context, with a view to strategically developing new projects in current sites and / or in surrounding regions.
  • Provide any technical advice that is necessary to communities.
  • Conduct water quality assessments and disinfect sources as required
  • Oversee any future water implementation project using community participation
  • Request materials from the store as per the need and ensure correct usage
  • Ensure there is adequate community involvement in the implementations
  • Ensure women and children’s active participation and involvement in the project implementation
  • Ensuring sites and communities are ready for the work in advance
  • Holding meetings with community leaders and members as needed to resolve problem and conflicts arise due to the program implementation.
  • Ensuring all communities are given fair chance in the project as per their needs.
  • Coordinate with SP’s operations department for all WASH logistical needs and making sure all movements are planned well done appropriately.
  • Design and develop WASH projects in coordination with other technical departments if required, administration and logistics departments.
  • Maintain an oversight of WASH supplies ordered for the WASH projects, supporting the WASH and logistics staff in the coordination and quality control of WASH Supplies
  • Ensure the technical relevance of Samaritan’s Purse Projects, by providing expertise, assertive and efficient inputs to each program.
  • Prepare and write internal activity reports and monthly plan.
  • Actively attend WASH coordination meetings at the regional level
  • Assume other duties assigned by immediate supervisor

Job Requirements

Education / Experience Needed

  • BSC in Water Engineering, Public Health Environmental Engineering or equivalent Degree in related filed
  • Minimum three years of experience in WASH
  • Previous INGO work experience preferred

Skills Required

  • Fluency in English, Amharic
  • Excellent communication, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to large groups of people
  • Ethiopian driving license and ability to ride a motorbike preferred
  • Ability to work in a hostile environment with only basic necessities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Computer skill in word or excel programs required
