JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Environmental Health Manager, the Water Technician Officer will be responsible for installation of water supply system electro mechanical parts & ensuring proper operation & maintenance of the water supply system including submersible pumps, surface pumps, generators and switch boards installed towards supply of safe and adequate water to the camp population.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  •   Serve as main technical focal point for activities related to troubleshooting, operation and maintenance of electro-mechanical parts (pumps, generators, control systems, etc—) of water supply systems of Kobe refugee camps and host community.
  •    Identify gaps & plan for onsite training to build the capacity of the Assistant Water Technician Officers, Plumbers and operators in Melkadida refugee Camp in consultation with the EH Manger and Water Technician Manager.
  •    Ensures that all generators, pumps and fittings at production and distribution systems, tap stands, water storage tanks have enough back up easily moving parts.
  •   Prepare detail specification including item description, part # and quantity of spare parts necessary to fix identified problems on electro-mechanical parts (pumps, generator set, control panels, etc) of water supply schemes.
  •  Identify & ensure the procurement of tools and equipment’s required towards operation & maintenance of the water supply systems including generators, pumps and control panel for pumps;
  • Prepare & put in place monitoring plan for the operation & servicing of the generators and pumps;
  • Keep records of fuel consumption, generator working hours and electro mechanical equipment’s performance indicators during the operation and maintenance phase and report to the EH Manager and Water Technician Manager.
  •  Organize and deliver training’s on operation and maintenance of electro-mechanical parts to operators, plumbers and Assistant Water Technicians Officers.
  • Provide the necessary technical support to WMCs, operators, plumbers and technicians in operation and maintenance of their water supply schemes;
  • Prepare, weekly and monthly progress reports and keep the supervisor informed of the maintenance and/or installation of electro-mechanical parts;
  • Visit the generators and pump on daily bases and provide guidance and advise for the operators and maintenance team
  • Install generators and pumps in the water supply systems
  • Assist the EH Manager in project proposal development and quarter and annual reporting regarding to electro mechanical operation activities.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

BSc Degree or Diploma in Electricity, Auto mechanics or related fields and have excellent experience in surface water management with at least 3 years of relevant experience plus BSc degree and 6 years of relevant experience for diploma holders;

Required Skill

  • Excellent Experience in surface and submersible pump operation & maintenance
  • Computer literate in word and excel.
  • Good writing and spoken skill in English
  • Good interpersonal skill to work with a team
  • Basic supervisory/managerial skills
  •         Technical and report writing skills

The IRC initially intervened in response to floods that affected over 7 million people across the country, destroying harvest and damaging homes. The IRC is currently implementing programs in Health, Protection, WASH, Nutrition, Food Security, and Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) in Adamawa and Borno States in North-Eastern Nigeria.

The IRC is dedicated to making women and adolescent girls healthier from the earliest phase of acute crises (a target group most vulnerable during crisis) and implements evidence-based reproductive health interventions in line with the SPHERE-standard Minimum Initial Service Package for Reproductive Health in Crises (MISP). The goal is to ensure that the IRC’s health responses in emergencies include the core package of Reproductive Health (RH) services in its interventions.

The IRC’s Reproductive Health (RH) program is currently implementing (MISP) for RH in 4 health care centers in MMC and Jere LGAs and 1 IDP camp clinic. In addition the program is starting up an emergency mobile programming outside of these areas of Maiduguri in coordination with the WPE team. The focus of this program is to provide quality comprehensive RH and WPE services to conflict-affected women and girls in a timely manner. In addition to the mobile program, the WPE and RH joint mobile teams will be in charge of rapid assessments and rapid response. The mobile teams will be focused in the newly opened LGAs and emergency areas previously inaccessible due to conflict and insecurity. These teams will provide life-saving services to populations outside of Maiduguri, who have not had access to services in approximately 3 years.
