Position Overview:
FHI 360 seeks qualified candidates for the position Youth and Training Specialist for Fiovana, a USAID-funded nutrition and food security program in Madagascar that is managed by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA). FHI 360 is a subrecipient of ADRA on this USAID/Food For Peace (FFP)-funded award. The position is expected to remain over the life of the project (5 years) and will be based in Manakara.
FIOVANA, meaning “change” in Malagasy, aims to achieve sustainable improvement of food and nutrition security and resilience of vulnerable populations in Atsimo Atsinanana and Vatovavy-Fitovinany regions. The program will operate in three interdependent domains of change:
1) Sustained improvement in the health and nutritional status of WRA, adolescent girls, and children under 5 (CU5);
2) HH incomes are sufficient to access food and non-food essentials and build savings; and
3) Enhanced social and ecological risk management.
Social and behavior change (SBC) and local capacity strengthening weave throughout these domains, providing building blocks for sustainable impact.

Two overarching responsibilities of the Youth and Training Specialist will be to support:
- Development of the Youth Empowerment component by assisting with the design of a creative, innovative life skills approach that transforms local youth into positive change agents who assume leadership roles in development efforts.
- Provide technical support to the overall training, sustainability and exit strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
The Youth and Training Specialist will primarily responsible for the following:
- Collaborating in programmatic and technical aspects of youth development strategies and activities, integrating the 3 project domains (cited above) as required.
- Developing or adapting, testing and producing life skills curricula in-school and out-of-school adolescents, with a particular emphasis on young girls.
- Developing or adapting, testing and producing SBC-related skill-building workshops for: Health agents and Community Health Workers (CHWs); Agricultural and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) agents; Community leaders. Illustrative examples of skill-building workshops include:
- Community leaders to develop and monitor Action Plans
- Staff to increase long-term behavior shifts and reduce future risks of adopting improved agriculture, fishing and livelihoods practices.
- CHWs in interpersonal communication and group facilitation skills
- Skilling-building of new and existing community-based influencer groups (including CoSan), to transform behavior and practices.
- Leading Training of Trainers (TOT) workshops related to youth curricula and skill-building workshops.
- Coordinating and supervising the Master trainers and training activities both at project and district level; and monitoring the activities of Master trainers.
- Providing the necessary support for cascade trainings as outlined in program strategy.
- Conducting systematic follow-up and ensuring mid-course corrections are made to training materials to reflect learning from the field.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in relevant technical areas, such as Communication, Adolescent education, Rural development, Sociology or Social Sciences.
- At least five (5) years of progressively increasing technical responsibility in the relevant technical areas.
- Solid understanding of programmatic and technical aspects of youth development strategies and activities, including a range of effective youth and community approaches.
- Demonstrated workshop facilitation skills.
- Experience with international donor-funded projects.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Strong understanding of local cultural practices, gender and age dynamics.
- Knowledge of agricultural, livelihoods, and/or food security programming.
- Experience with USAID and Food for Peace (FFP) preferred.
- Relevant computer software skills.
Travel Requirements:
20%-30% in country
