Nascent Solutions (Nascent) seeks a Chief of Party to lead an anticipated 5-year Food for Peace project in Karamoja, Uganda, funded by USAID. Reporting to Nascent’s Executive Director, the Chief of Party is responsible for defining the project’s overall strategy and direction, managing and developing relationships with government and other stakeholders, developing clear operational plans for execution, and directing personnel and finances.

The project seeks to employ a holistic approach to building resilience of communities through integrated food security, nutrition, and livelihoods initiatives shaped by a deep understanding of community and household stresses and shocks in Karamoja.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide programmatic and/or technical leadership in the achievement of project objectives, development of strategic plans, annual work plans, and overall management of award implementation according to USAID guidelines;
  • Ensure the quality and sustainability of program approaches;
  • Lead team in ensuring proper coordination among local government, country-wide initiatives, community partners, NGOs and other key stakeholders;
  • Represent Nascent in-country and present progress, achievements and lessons learned to donors and key stakeholders;
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant administrative, human resources, procurement and financial policies and procedures;
  • Work with M&E staff to ensure M&E frameworks are developed and data/results are effectively tracked;
  • Mentor, support, and supervise and management a diverse team and align their efforts to ensure, rapid, sustainable results.

Skills and Attributes

  • Master’s degree in development studies, international relations, agriculture, nutrition, public health, business administration, or related field;
  • Minimum of ten years of progressively increasing management responsibility in international development projects;
  • Prior experience managing development assistance projects of a similar size and scope in developing countries; experience managing multi-sectoral projects including agricultural development and maternal child health and nutrition;
  • Proven leadership skills. Demonstrated experience recruiting, developing, and managing staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with host governments, donors, other donor-funded projects and stakeholders, local organizations, and partners;
  • Understanding and demonstrated commitment to the importance of gender and youth issues in food security programming;
  • Experience managing programmatic and financial reporting requirements;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and other languages, as required;
  • Ability to travel within the country and internationally, as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in physically and mentally challenging conditions.
