Duties and Responsibilities

The Consultant is required to:

  • Create the visual identity or look of the film ;
  • Work with the Director, camera crew and lighting department to achieve this;
  • Manage all aspects of filming; from ordering and overseeing equipment to recces to reviewing footage.

Specific Tasks for FilmAid

FilmAid will meet the Consultant’s costs of travel to and from Kakuma Refugee Camp as well as accommodation and meals while out in the field during the consultancy period.

Time Frame and Budget:

We seek to work with Documentary Director of Photography for 20 working days. The consultant is to provide a budget with all related costs and provide rate card of their services in the application.

Qualifications and Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree of Arts or creative field.

  • Experience working in hardship areas.
  • Have good technical knowledge of photo-chemical and digital processes.
  • Know all about camera equipment.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of lighting techniques and how to achieve them.
  • Be flexible in order to adapt ideas instantly.
  • Be able to take decisions quickly.
  • Have knowledge in photography.
  • Have artistic vision and a good colour vision.

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be creative with a considerable industry experience.
  • Pay precise attention to detail.
  • Be able to give and accept direction.
  • Have people skills.
  • Be diplomatic and tactful when working with cast and crew.
  • Know about health and safety legislation and procedures.

FilmAid International is a non-profit humanitarian organization that uses film to educate and entertain displaced people around the world. FilmAid was founded during the Balkan crisis in 1999 by producer Caroline Baron (Capote, Monsoon Wedding) to assist with refugee communities in Macedonia suffering the effects of war, poverty, displacement and disaster. Since 1999, FilmAid has worked in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other global aid organizations to help bring information and training to more than two million people worldwide. FilmAid produces and distributes community-based films on public health and safety issues such as maternal health, HIV, cholera, gender-based violence and conflict resolution. Using inflatable screens and other ‘Mobile Cinema’ units, FilmAid screenings aims to overcome language and literacy boundaries. FilmAid currently works in Kenya, in the large refugee camps of Dadaab and Kakuma as well as informal settlements in Nairobi and Mombassa, with Burmese refugees in Thailand and also in Haiti.
