IntraHealth International is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Family Planning Advisor for the USAID funded Expanding and Strengthening Family Planning Service Options project in Uganda. The project will work to increase use of equitable, quality and sustainable family planning (FP) services through increased FP service delivery options and demand for modern contraception including long-acting reversible contraception (LARCs) and permanent methods (PMs).

The Family Planning Advisorwill be responsible for collaborating with the Director, Family Planning Service Delivery in the design, implementation, and monitoring of high impact FP interventions. The Family Planning Advisor will provide technical leadership on all FP service delivery efforts and will ensure activities are designed and implemented with high quality and to meet project targets.

The duration of the project is five years and the position will be based in Kampala. Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Director, Family Planning Service Delivery in assuring that FP technical activities under the project are implemented in a timely and effective manner.
  • Collaborates closely with key government officials in the Ministries of Health, NGOs and with partners, as part of the development of country program strategies to design and implement service delivery in a way that ensures sustainability.
  • Ensures that technical assistance for capacity building related to service delivery and quality improvement to the districts is timely, targeted, effective, and efficient.
  • Collaborates in developing and providing technical input on training materials at the national, district and health center level.
  • Contributes to the compilation and dissemination of significant lessons learned, and to any other publishable documents that further the project agenda.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of post graduate degree in Nursing, Public health or other health related field
  • At least 6 years of experience in the area of FP in the government Health sector and International NGOs in health sector.
  • Demonstrate profound familiarity with FP health system and guidelines and standards in Uganda.
  • Technical proficiency in facility and community family planning, quality improvement and supervision including youth and gender.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating trainings related to FP/design and implementation of  a variety of capacity building and quality improvement approaches .
  • Strong coaching, training and mentoring skills.
  • Prior experience working on USAID funded projects. If the person has worked with International NGOs is this a requirement of preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence policy and programs implementation at regional, district and the facility level.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills in English.
