The Other Foundation is an African LGBTI community foundation that advances equality and freedom in southern Africa with a particular focus on sexual orientation and gender identity. Its primary purpose is to expand the resources available to defend and advance the human rights, social inclusion, and wellbeing of bisexual and homosexual women and men, as well as transgender and intersex people, in 13 countries in southern Africa – recognizing the particular dynamics of race, poverty and inequality, sex, national origin, heritage, and politics in our part of the world. It does this by working both as a fundraiser and a grant maker.

The Foundation is looking for a talented person who has the ability to work within a team of diverse people, is self-motivated, experienced, innovative, has excellent financial management skills and a proven track record, to appoint to the following position:

Finance Manager

Working in a small team, the successful candidate will manage all financial activities including procurement and payment systems, general accounting, preparation of accurate financial management reporting packs, auditing, budgeting, budgetary controls, financial analysis and forecast, cash flow management, and financial reporting on grants; ensure adherence to all relevant statutory and legal requirements; manage vendor accounts; ensure smooth financial administration of the Foundation including the supervision of relevant administrative staff; and review grantee financial reports, amongst other tasks. At least 5 years of experience in a similar post is required.

The Foundation is based in Rosebank, Johannesburg. This post is contract based. The ability to communicate in English is a requirement. The ability to communicate in French and/or Portuguese as well will give candidates an advantage.

It does this by working both as a fundraiser and a grant maker.

The Atlantic Philanthropies has provided a generous grant over a five-year period to cover all operational costs, subject to The Other Foundation being able to raise additional funds from other sources. In the longer term, we hope to be supported primarily by African-based philanthropy.
