The Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) has an International opening for a Lecturer in Community Development with Christian Reformed World Missions (CRWM). This position under the overall supervision of the principal of Pentecostal Theological College (PTC), the Lecturer will provide support to the principal and staff directly responsible for the Development of Community Transformation (DCT) through areas of course development, teaching, evaluation and management of daily operations.   A detailed job description is available below.

Position Description

Job Title:  Lecturer in Community Development

Department: International Program – Uganda

Status:     Full-time, Exempt

PURPOSE

Under the overall supervision of the principal of Pentecostal Theological College (PTC), the Lecturer will provide support to the principal and staff directly responsible for the Development of Community Transformation (DCT) through areas of course development, teaching, evaluation and management of daily operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

1. Support the Principal and staff
2. Guide in development of courses for the DCT and participate in lecturing in the college
3. Assist with the planning, coordination, reviewing and reporting processes within the DCT.
4. Develop structures and systems for the department.
5. Supervise staff within the department.
6. Maintain an updated and accurate database on progress of the DCT in terms of operational and activity implementation, and provide current documentation on all matters related to students within the department.
7. Present a list of students ready for graduation to the Academic Dean.
8. Respond to requests and queries related to the department and act as a liaison to the partners.
9. As head of department, chair all departmental meetings and assist in the organization of the department and stakeholders meetings.
10. Lobby and advocate for support
11. Report to the principal in all matters regarding the DCT.
12. Undertake special assignments related to the DCT as may be assigned by the principal of PTC.

2. Monitoring
3. Monitor the department activity implementation according to the time schedules and milestones.
4. Follow up and confirm with all the stakeholders that the work plan is being implemented in line with agreed timelines and budgets.
5. Support consultants to undertake independent evaluations of the departmental activities.
6. Secure sites for experiments which are suitable for skills development and training of the students.
7. Address queries that arise from evaluation reports.

4. Prepare progress reports, narrative and financial, and share with all stakeholders including the policy makers.
5. Provide inputs necessary for preparing various reports to the principal.

QUALIFICATIONS 1. Hold membership in the CRCNA and have knowledge/understanding of the CRCNA and/or Reformed tradition. 2. Experience working in Africa. 3. Demonstrated ability to lecture. 4. Good knowledge of administrative policy processes and procedures 5. Ability to identify and resolve a wide range of issues/problems 6. Ability to work under pressure, ability to extract, interpret, analyze and format data 7. Ability to research and gather data from a wide variety of standard and nonstandard sources; analyze, interpret and produce a report 8. Demonstrated ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. 9. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, good drafting skills and able to demonstrate openness in sharing information and keeping people informed. 10. Demonstrate organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities as well as plan and coordinate own work and manage conflicting priorities. 11. Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment and with respect for diversity. 12. Fully proficient in computer skills: Word, Excel, Power-Point, Internet, etc. Knowledge in project planning and management is an added advantage. 13. English is a working language of the Pentecostal Theological College and therefore fluency in oral and written English is essential.   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 1. Masters degree in Community Development, Agriculture or other related field.  Additional study in Bible and/or Theology preferred. 2. At least 3 years work experience in the related fields.   Intermediate Steps: The successful candidate for this position will pass through two intermediate steps before taking up the tasks outlined in this position description; the rate change for each step is included. Step #1 Missionary Candidate:  The purpose of this position is to prepare for international service by building a network of prayer, care and financial support in North America that will enable future ministry. Ordinarily, this will progress from part-time to full-time as the support network grows through the work of the candidate and the missionary support team that is designed for this purpose.  One can expect to be in this role for 6 to 12 months, depending on how quickly the support network comes together. The current pay for this step is $19.82 US or $23.23 CND on the CRCNA Domestic scale. Step #2 Missionary in Training: The purpose of this role is to develop language and culture skills, ministry skills and relationships that will enable future ministry, and begin to use those in ministry.  Ordinarily, one can expect to be in this role for 6 to 18 months, depending on prior background and experience. The current pay for this step is $35,546 US or $38,004 Canada on the CRCNA International scale.
