Society for Family Health (SFH) is a South African affiliate of Population Services International (PSI), an international NGO network operational in over 70 countries. SFH in South Africa concentrates on issues of HIV/ AIDS. As part of their HIV/AIDS control efforts, SFH is using social marketing to motivate behaviour change with respect to consistent condom use, HIV testing and other safer behaviours.

RESPONSIBILITIES include:
Data Tracking and Coordination

  • Develop annual calendar of all donor data administration requirements and deadlines
  • Review and monitor data received and Input into database development
  • Update relevant stakeholders and team members on data collection progress
  • Capacitate program managers ability to analyse data for decision making
  • Address and, if required, escalate late or non-compliant data challenges
  • Coordinate that all data is collected and complete and captured by defined deadlines
  • Resolve relevant organizational data efficiently ensuring compliance
  • Supervise data collection teams with field staff, overseeing data collection activities and regularly monitoring data quality

Database Management System Support

  • Input into data collection system in consultation with the internal stakeholders
  • Support the system design and update based on the changing requirements of donors
  • Support sites to collate and submit DHIS data
  • Manage the implementation of the data collection system and amendments through training new users and communicating with service providers and users on progress
  • Communicate systems enhancements and changes to all relevant parties within agreed turnaround time

Data Quality Management

  • Support development of SOPs and M&E Plans
  • Review all data on databases and check for accuracy and completeness
  • Address data quality issues within deadline
  • Conduct data quality audits onsite and off site
  • Identify common data collection and quality challenges and issues and report on these including recommendations on how to address the challenges
  • Support with the implementation of SIMS

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Compile the organizational reports compliantly, completely, on time and according to donor commitments and reporting specifications
  • Review all data, identifying and analyzing trends and relevant opportunities and threats
  • Compile and present reports and recommendations

Capacity Development

  • Ensure that all staff receive adequate training on all data related issues
  • Capacitate program staff to accurate collect and consolidate data
  • Train field staff on indicators and related SOPs for program data collection
  • Train field staff on the data management information system

Data Use and Dissemination

  • Support program planning, reviewing and formal program evaluations
  • Support program staff on Abstract writing for scientific gatherings
  • Promote data use for decision making

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree in Health Economics, Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Social Sciences OR related research-based qualification is essential
  • Post graduate qualification will be an added advantage
  • Registration with relevant professions council will be an added advantage
  • Minimum 2-5 years M&E experience in the field of Public Health including HIV
  • Previous M&E experience in a donor funded program will be an added advantage
  • Ability to work independently and pro-actively, and as part of a team
  • Driver’s License and ability to travel when required

The successful candidate will be a creative, innovative and strategic thinker, and will have: excellent communication, analytical, organizational, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills; a strong interest in private sector approaches to development; and a proven ability to produce results and meet objectives under difficult circumstances.

Using a total market approach (using social marketing, free distribution and cost recovery services) SFH will be implementing projects that will target:50% of the burden of disease in Nigeria 50% of persons within the lower 3 wealth quintiles, who will have access to SFH products or interventions A 5% increase in DALYs yearly with 2012 as the baseline SFH will also have a 10% decrease in cost per DALY averted over the period of 2013-2017 using the 2012 value as deadline, and will have generated a 20% increase in unrestricted funds by 2017 compared to 2012. SFH will have developed a plan to spin off a subsidiary conducting logistics, research training, costs recovery products and specific interventions aimed at the for-profit sector including the oil and manufacturing sectors.
