INTERSOS is an International Humanitarian Organisation with its HQ in Rome, a Branch office in Nairobi and a Representation office in Geneva. The organizational structure is comprised of the Secretary General office, the Department of Programmes, the Emergency and Migration Units, the Departments of Finance, Logistics/ICT, Fundraising/Communication, Human Resources and the Internal Audit office. INTERSOS HQ in Rome is staffed with 48 employees. INTERSOS is operational in 17 countries with over 2000 national and international staff worldwide.

Job title: Regional Director

Location: Rome and/or Nairobi with frequent field missions

Reporting to: Director of Programmes (DoP)

Starting date: October 2017

Duration of contract: 2 years (renewable)1. General purpose of the position**

The present organisational structure of INTERSOS Programmes department is made of a team of one Director of Programmes, three Regional Directors, three Deputy Regional Directors, a Protection Referent a Medical Referent and the Emergency Unit. The Regional Director is responsible for the management, strategic programming, implementation of activities and achievement of objectives relating to the INTERSOS missions in Somalia, South Sudan & Yemen as well as for possible new interventions in the area of her/his responsibility; The Regional Director represents the Organization in relation to third parties in the region of assignment on the basis of directives conferred by the Director of Programmes. The Regional Director will be also responsible of the correct implementation of INTERSOS procedures and the utilization of the Organization tools.

  1. Tasks and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of Programmes and referring to the region of assignment, the Regional Director will:

  • Ensure the coherence of the Programmes portfolio of INTERSOS with the countries strategic plans, the 3YSP, the priorities and the mission of the Organization;
  • Ensure coherence of Programmes ambitions with INTERSOS resource policies;
  • Ensure compliance with INTERSOS and donors policies, procedures and legal constraints;
  • Support and coach the Heads of Missions;
  • Supervise the management of human resources employed in the region of assignment;
  • Supervise and monitor the correct and good implementation of the projects;
  • Plan, supervise and guarantee, in collaboration with the Regional Administrator, the mission’s structure costs and its sustainability;
  • Supervise the use of INTERSOS’ tools and the correct update of the programmes data base (IMP);
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Comunication Unit, the annual communication plan of the missions under his/her responsibility;
  • Support and follow up of specific dossiers of Programmes Department;
  • Lead and steer the preparation of the annual country strategic plans of the INTERSOS missions under her/his responsibility;
  • Contribute in deciding exploratory missions, starting, reorienting and ending projects through the relevant decision making platforms;
  • Develop and exercise a representative function vis-à-vis governments, national and international bodies and sponsors;
  • Work on enhancing the humanitarian debate.
  • Required profile/experience
  • Advanced university degree in Human Sciences or International Relations;
  • At least 5 years of field working experience, in managing humanitarian programmes with increasing responsibilities;
  • Previous experience in people management,
  • Proficiency in English & French is required. Italian is a strong plus;
  • ITC literacy compulsory;
  • Strategic vision,teamwork and flexibility;
  • Leadership skills.
