Role Purpose

Under the direct supervision of HR director, the post holder is expected to meet the quality standards of child safeguarding and PSEA (Protection from sexual Exploitation and Abuse) at country office.

She/he will be responsible for contextualizing child safeguarding and PSEA policies materials facilitate training for various groups, conduct risk assessment of projects mainly the humanitarian response, receiving and managing reported child safeguarding and PSEA concerns, establishing friendly reporting mechanisms for beneficiaries, and organize different learning forums on child safeguarding and PSEA practices. She /he is also responsible on monitoring of standard practices of sectors across all location, reporting, data maintaining, share learning.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: HR Director  

Dimensions: Save the Children works in all regions of Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately 1600 and current expenditure of approximately $80+ million each year.

Staff directly reporting to this post: One

Ensure system is in place for reporting, responding and appropriate support is given for senior managers on child safeguarding incidents based on the local procedure and global guidance on abuse and exploitation as required.

Receive child safeguarding and PSEA concern reports and facilitate the case management.

Follow up on volunteer recruitment process of projects and ensure the proper documentation are kept in the data base/record in collaboration with HR and project manager.

Conduct focus group discussion with children and adult beneficiaries on safe programing and reporting.

Ensure safeguarding is effectively mainstreamed across departments/units mainly MEAL, communication, supply chain, partnership, HR, program development unit, gender and at senior management level and get their responsibility is well understood and owned.

Ensure the humanitarian strategy and county strategy incorporate safeguarding component and support on its implementation and monitoring approach.

Ensure children participation in events, media and communication technology do not put children at risk and appropriate procedure is followed by respective units.

Compile and submit monthly report on child safeguarding and PSEA activities to regional child safeguarding director and participate on the monthly regional safeguarding leads meeting.

Compile partners support documents, analyze partner risk assessment result and support on identified gaps.

Participate on the kick off meetings, project annual review meetings, national management meetings and related forums and networks.

Represent the organization internally and externally on any child safeguarding and PSEA related issues and ensure technical support is provided for regional and global offices as required.

 Take additional assignment as demanded by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of Bachelor Degree in social sciences and eight years proven experience on child protection, education, social work. Child safeguarding and other related filed.

Experience on facilitation and coordination of training and workshops

Experience in conducting assessment, monitoring and report writing

Practical experience on child participation on the intervention of program activities.

Strong computer skills, including the use of email, internet and Microsoft office

Fluency in written and spoken English

Desirable

Experience on child safeguarding and PSEA(Protection from sexual Exploitation and Abuse)

Experience on humanitarian response programs

Skill on illustration design and publication

 Speaking and writing of the local language
