Senior Business Development Officer

Job description

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of: Senior Business Development Officer

  • Provides coordination for the production of proposal and systems developed or supported by the Proposal group. Supports proposal managers in the preparation of proposal.
  • Handles the proposal process independently, identifies and circulates appropriate funding opportunities to senior leadership and key internal stakeholders, logs proposal data into the proposal database to ensure timely and accurate reporting, and creates and distributes both regular and ad hoc business development reports to senior leadership and others in the organisation.
  • Customizes Proposal/ Request for Proposal (RFP) responses focusing on customer goals and product needs.
  • Collaborates directly with Subject Matter Experts (SME) from various departments to address non-standard features and donor specific issues.
  • Supports relationships with donors by conducting research and analyses of simple complexity.
  • Assists a group of country offices with business strategy, business planning, and/or other business development needs.
  • Identifies potential partners and/or donors; coordinate meetings or calls with prospects.
  • Provides ad hoc planning and support for business development initiatives including conferences and meetings.
  • Works closely with various levels of management to develop proposals or provide support for projects of simple complexity.
  • Balances multiple projects and deadlines in an intense and stressful environment retaining high level of flexibility to meet donor requirements.
  • Proof reads all assignments as quality control check before submission to Proposal team or Proposal Management for review.
  • Coordinates meetings with the project estimating team, other experts and functional managers for the purpose of completing proposals.
  • Distributes essential material to the functional managers and bid team experts and sends follow-up mails to the team with the details of the proposal and timeline for completion
  • Maintains proposal development files for all proposal materials and project outputs.
  • Maintains departmental database systems, templates, models and/or websites by ensuring accurate data entry.
  • Assembles proposal and project final documents.
  • Develops and sustains working relationships with all levels of management.
  • Keep abreast of all appropriate operating procedures and structural changes.
  • Ensures effective communication among proposal team members, partners, and collaborators throughout the proposal development process.
  • Performs, manages, and supports the proposal process, including researching, writing, and editing proposal outlines, timelines, and cost reports.
  • Assists with the identification of partners, negotiation of roles, and creation of teaming agreements.
  • Performs and may lead the proposal process, including researching, writing, and editing proposal outlines, timelines, and cost reports.
  • Develops tools, templates, and work processes; maintain the proposal database; including post-proposal submission follow-up, including archiving documents, tracking status, and debrief meetings.
  • Reports to management on business development initiatives. Manage the proposal database.
  • Works closely with various levels of management to develop proposals or proposal projects of intermediate complexity.
  • Maintains departmental database systems, models and or/websites by ensuring appropriateness of structure, content and functionality.
  • Works on special projects as assigned by Proposal management.
  • Creates payment schedules and terms to meet donor requirements with supervision from Finance.
  • Participates as part of a dedicated team to ensure consistency in approach and format for assigned customers.
  • Predicts and prevents constraints in the proposal or project development process and escalates accordingly to higher level.

Applied Knowledge & Skills

  • Provides analytical support in the development of strategy for significant proposals, including cost risk assessments and positioning to win.
  • Support New Business Strategy and Proposal Managers as they coordinate with the divisional Business Managers, Business Development, and the other members of the team in the formulation of proposal strategy.
  • Support cost volume planning (estimating team, proposal schedule, proposal estimating techniques, etc.), and execution for strategic competitive proposals.
  • Responsible for analysis to develop and implement the cost strategies necessary to translate final donor requirements into proposals.
  • Provides continuity between proposal strategy and proposal execution.
  • The central contact on the cost proposal team for competitive new and existing business proposals.
  • Proficient in proposal systems, processes and computer software.
  • Will be able to perform tasks with proficiency and some supervision.
  • Should be able to anticipate many of the tasks related to proposal development.
  • Increased communication (oral and written) of technical proposal issues to proposal team and donors
  • Committed to accomplishing high quality, on time deliverables.

Experience

  • 3 – 5 years of experience in related field.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Read, write and speak English. Fluent in the host country language required.
  • Knowledge of Non-governmental Organization (NGO) preferred
  • USAID, CDC, or DfID proposal management experience is preferred

  • employees including project team members.
