USAID awarded a comprehensive health service delivery project to PATH to improve the health of Kenyans in the western region of the country. The project, APHIAplus Western Kenya, builds upon USAID/Kenya’s country-wide health service support project known as the AIDS, Population and Health Integrated Assistance II (APHIA II). PATH and its partners have been implementing the APHIAplus project in Western and Nyanza regions since January 1, 2011. The project will run up to December 31, 2016. The project works closely with the Government of Kenya and a wide variety of non-government agencies to strengthen health care services throughout the western region. In addition to addressing specific diseases, the APHIAplus Western Kenya project works on strengthening the region’s health care system by rehabilitating health facilities, training healthcare workers, and supporting supply and communication networks.
We seek to recruit a Community Mobilization Associate who will coordinate mobilization of clients aged 10-29 years for Male Circumcision be involved in the planning, implementation and monitoring of APHIAplus VMMC community components within APHIAplus Western Kenya VMMC sites, the Community Mobilization Associate will form part of the APHIAplus Western Kenya VMMC team and report to the VMMC Program Officer. The Community Mobilization Associate will be based in Homabay.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular meeting with community units to discuss VMMC performance with regard to demand for the service.
- Working closely with the VMMC program officer, he/she will develop and execute mobilization work plans in the county.
- Sensitize and educate the community on Male Circumcision by providing health education in learning institutions, workplaces.
- Support the implementation of the community strategy within project sites.
- In collaboration with VMMC Technical Officers, support service providers to promote VMMC within the facility and community
- Ensure there is community participation, ownership and sustainability on all VMMC communication and mobilization activities.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluation of VMMC community health and mobilization activities, including monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Assist in VMMC training, orientation, mentorship and on the job training of community health workers in community approaches and facts on MC.
- In close collaboration with and under the guidance of the VMMC Technical Officer, work with special groups in the community (e .g. Women, youth, men and leaders) to ensure improved access to VMMC services.
- Coordinate and oversee the identification of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) within the facility community units, sensitize them on VMMC demand creation and other community engagement activities.
- Perform any other duty assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Required Skills
- Ability to interact with community members.
- Computer literate with skills in MS Office Suite.
- Sensitive to socio-cultural differences in the region.
- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
Required Experience
Diploma in Community Health, Public Health, Nursing, Social sciences and or related studies, minimum 2 years’ experience in community based health work, community approaches, and/or social mobilization, experienced in community health related to reproductive health/VMMC, ability to work well with others and a team player, ability to set priorities, and plans for the successful implementation of programs, experience working with rural communities and MOH, understands the local community cultural dynamics, and strong change management, results oriented and decision making skills.
You must currently have legal authorization to work in Kenya.
