Union Bank of Nigeria Plc was established in 1917, as a full-service commercial bank that caters to the retail and commercial needs of individuals, small and medium sized companies, and major corporations.

Summary

  • The Union Bank Campus Writing Challenge is an OkadaBooks initiative sponsored by Union Bank. The contest is focused on discovering young, raw and bold writing talents across Nigeria and giving them with the necessary support to hone their craft and become master storytellers.
  • Contestants also stand a chance to get publishing deals as select entries will be shared with top publishers in Nigeria including Farafina and Narrative Landscape.

Criteria
Successful entries will be judged based on the below:

  • Your Originality
  • Excellence of writing
  • Use of language
  • Interpretation and style of writing
  • Potential commercial sussess of the book

Your Writing should have:

  • 3,000 minimum word count
  • 5,000: Maximum word count
  • Fiction: (e.g adventure, romance, crime, science, etc)
  • Nigeria Slangs and expressions are allowed
  • New story i.e unpublished in any form
  • One Entry allowed per person

Challenge Prizes
1st:

  • N500,000 in cash
  • Story published in the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology
  • A copy of the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology
  • Interviewed on bellanaija.com, okadabooks.com and brittlepaper.com

2nd:

  • N200,000 in cash
  • Story published in the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology
  • A copy of the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology.
  • Interviewed on bellanaija.com, okadabooks.com and brittlepaper.com

3rd:

  • N100,000 in cash
  • Story published in the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology.
  • A copy of the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology.
  • Interviewed on bellanaija.com, okadabooks.com and brittlepaper.com

4th:

  • N60,000 in cash
  • Story published in the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology.
  • A copy of the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology.

Audience favorite

  • N50,000 in cash
  • Short story published in the 1st edition of the Collegiate Anthology.

Best Cover Design

  • N50,000 in cash

Time Line of Events
8th of October – 4th of November 2018:

  • Slush judges and OkadaBooks editors will read up and select and announce the Top 150 entries.

5th of November to 3rd of December 2018:

  • Audience favorite and best cover design voting begins.

5th – 30th of November 2018:

  • Main judges will review the 150 finalists and select Longlist, Shortlist and Top 3.

December 2018:

  • Announcement of Audience Favorite Award, Best Cover Design, Longlist, Shortlist and Top 3 Awards Ceremony.
