“ SABR is a non-profit organization that came to life in 2003. Since then so much has happened. Today we're the largest human-milk banking partner of the South African Department of Health and Netcare, associated with 44 milk banks that supply anything from 75 to 100 hospitals around the country, in a year.Did you know that breastfeeding rates in SA are one of the lowest in the world? This contributes to the loss of the most vulnerable members of our society including 20 000 babies under 1,8kg and 70 000 babies under five years of age - and that's just in a year. Here at SABR, we believe that breastfeeding, access to mothers-own-milk, donated breastmilk and education are the keys to unlocking infant survival. Plus, by reducing premature infant mortality rates our over-stretched public hospitals can save millions. Our mission is twofold: to provide infants in need with donated breastmilk that is safe and pasteurized, dramatically improving their chances of survival; and to educate all new moms about the benefits of breastfeeding. Our vision is to facilitate human-milk banks in as many communities as possible, continuing to help vulnerable babies thrive, especially those orphaned by AIDS.SABR lives to promote human-milk banking and I'm incredibly proud of our hardworking team. As a non-profit organization, our earnings are measured in lives saved. None of what we do would be possible without the generosity of others. So thank you all.*The above statistics are from research undertaken by the SABR for the years 2013 and 2014. Despite great success over the past years, we still have a mammoth task ahead of us. SABR has helped save the lives of more than 8 000 infants. With your continued help - through donating breastmilk, sponsorship or simply getting in your car to to help with collections and deliveries - we hope to reach even more babies in need than ever before. ”
