BACKGROUND

New Ways has been operating in south-central zones of Somalia since 1993, delivering multi-sectorial programs in health, nutrition, education, protection, food security and livelihoods our health programs cover: Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and child health. Our geographic focus covers Lower / Middle Shabelle, Bay, Galgaduud, and Banadir regions.

New Ways in partnership with SHF is currently implementing health project under the title of: Lifesaving integrated health for Women and children of IDP and vulnerable host community in El Bur district in Galgadud region.

New ways organization is seeking services of professionally qualified and experienced facilitators to conduct training on Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC).

PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT

The main purpose of this training is to equip midwives, nurses and other health care staff with midwifery skills, as team members will provide Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) within New Ways supported facilities in Elbur district to avert maternal and newborn mortality & morbidity.

Tasks and deliverables for facilitators:

I. The facilitators will be expected to design a training package in modules with clear learning objectives, learning outlines, learning materials and assessment tools. The modules recommended for this training include:

(a) Introduction to maternal and newborn health,

(b) Rapid initial assessment and emergency management

(c) Care during pregnancy

(d) Care during labor and child birth

(e) Post-partum maternal and newborn care.

II. Implement a pre-training assessment on the trainees

III. Train selected midwives, nurses and other health care providers on Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC).

IV. Conduct post training assessment on the trainees

V. Prepare and submit comprehensive training report with actionable recommendations on how to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths within the supported facilities.

EXPERIENCES

v Competent training skills

v Previous experience on facilitating training of health staff on BEmONC

v Good knowledge of English, Somalia is an added advantage

v Facilitators with minimum experience 2 years in BEmONC training skills

Languages

v Fluency in written and spoken English required.
