Partners in Sexual Health (PSH) is a national evidence based, non-profit public benefit organisation that provides Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR) services – including HIV/AIDS services – to men, women and particularly the youth. Their vision is an empowered society on SRHR in South Africa.

PSH seeks to appoint 2 School Development Managers to be based in Cape Town.

The purpose of this position is to break the cycle of crime and violence in which young people live, by equipping community members to reorganise and respond appropriately to both the causes and effects of crime and violence in their communities. This post ins within AGYW Programme in Klipfontein.

Responsibilities:

  • The School Development approach aims to build the capacity of school leadership structures such as School Management Teams (SMTs) and School Governing Bodies (SGBs) to:
    • Provide technical support for the implementation of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) programme following the whole school development approach.
    • The School Development Manager and PRs will facilitate the training of Life Orientation educators to facilitate scripted lesson plans for CSE. School Management Teams and School Governing Bodies will also be oriented on CSE.
    • Provide technical support on how to implement the new DBE HIV/TB/STI Policy.
    • Provide technical support on how to implement the Integrated School Health Policy (ISHP) and improve TB awareness among educators.
    • Raise awareness about GBV through dialogues conducted with school governing bodies, staff, parents and other key stakeholders regarding cultural and traditional norms, behavioural change and reduction of GBV and risk reducing behaviours within schools, surrounding communities and families.
    • Provide technical support to include the sensitisation of educators addressing norm changes and perceptions as well as encourage buy-in into the whole school based programme with relevant stakeholders and implementation gatekeepers (i.e. School Governing Bodies).
    • Develop and support Career Jamborees, supporting grade 9 learners to make choices with regards to subject choices
    • Previous experience of life orientation curriculum teaching and training
    • Registered with SACE
    • Knowledge of the CAPS system

Required:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Social Sciences / Health Sciences / Policy Studies / Education.
  • Management and Leadership experience.
  • Honours / Masters Qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Good knowledge of and experience in working with the Department of Basic Education and Western Cape Education Department.
  • Good knowledge of policy implementation.
  • Previous experience of life orientation curriculum teaching and training
  • Knowledge of the CAPS system
  • Working knowledge of developing Career Jamborees.
  • Registered with SACE
