Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) is a board-led, for-not-profit organization registered in Ethiopia under the revised Civil Societies Law 1113/2019 with registry number 4307. CARD envisions to see a democratic Ethiopia and has a mission of echoing principles of democracy to make it the rule of the game in Ethiopia.

CARD, in partnership with National Endowment for Democracy (NED), will soon be launching a project on Promoting Conflict Sensitive Civic Engagement of the Youth in Ethiopia. The project is intended to build skills of publicly active youth members who are working to create and lead democratic grassroots civic movements.

As part of this project, CARD is looking to recruit trainers with extensive experience in participatory facilitation in areas of human rights and conflict sensitivity, civic association leadership, project management, and social media marketing.

Scope of Work:

CARD will recruit youth human rights (democracy) activists from three regions of Ethiopia, and they will be receiving civic movement building and leadership training, and eventually get support for selected project proposals. The leadership training covers a wide range of topics and activities.

The training will have four modules:

  • Module one: human rights and conflict-sensitive dialogue
  • Module two: Introduction to civic associations and leadership
  • Module three: Project Management
  • Module four: Effective use of social media to promote democratic cause

Hence, we are looking for experienced trainers to carry out the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Design a training module on one of the topics
  • Develop a training presentation based on the developed module for two days: four sessions
  • Develop pre- and post-assessments of training topics
  • Deliver training in a participatory and engaging manner

Job Requirements

Core Competency:

  • At least 3 years of experience facilitating trainings on the topics for youth
  • Strong skill in design facilitation and participatory methodology
  • Ability to manage a diverse group
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Work in intercultural and politically sensitive setting with different groups
  • Experience working with young people
  • Well conscious of human rights and democratic principles
  • A nuanced understanding of the political dynamics and context in Ethiopia
