SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation for the global federation of SOS Children’s Villages. As a non-governmental social development organisation, we support children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for the rights of children and young people, in alliance with a great diversity of partners. We work in 135 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year. To support us with this important responsibility we are now looking for committed Team Leader Communications.

Team Leader Communications

Location: Dakar

Tasks and Responsibilities

The Team Leader Communications’ mission is to position, promote and strengthen SOS Children’s Villages image, visibility and reputation in the WCNA region and among its key audiences.

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the implementation of a communication strategy to increase SOSCV’s visibility and image at a national/regional levels and within the Federation. S/he protects the image and the brand of SOS CV in the region and on the national markets. S/he supports Member Associations on developing and implementing internal and external communications strategies and action plans to support their National plans. The main tasks and responsibilities of the position are:

· Implement internal and external communications strategy and annual plans aligned with regional strategy (identify and monitor key KPIs)

· Elaborate a consistent message about the organisation, its mission and its activities (including positioning, related key messages and talking points) and disseminate across the region

· Support and provide feedback for strategic communications planning and ensure the consistency with key messages and brand among Member Associations

  • Enhance the inclusion of programme and advocacy topics in the communications targets and plans

· Organise key moments (forums and events) that support SOSCV positioning in the region (starting in Dakar).

· Monitor the regional media landscape and develop good relationships with key journalists and influencers

· Implement internal communication standards in the region and promote the intranet with Member Associations

· Support capacity development of advisors in terms of communications

· Drive the regional brand strengthening process to enable one consistent brand based on the overall mission of SOS Children’s Villages.

· Support Member Associations (MAs) in establishing an adequate structure to ensure a successful national brand strengthening process and to contribute to further develop a common brand meaning

· Ensure the implementation of global and regional policies, standards and guidelines in the fields of communications and brand

  • Support the communications experts in the MAs especially for advocacy activities concerning content and messaging, alignment between communications channels, but also accompanying PR
  • Work with the Correspondent WCNA and the Regional DS team to initiate and enhance the exchange of knowledge between fundraisers, communications people and Donor Services colleagues on a regional and MA level

· Support capacity development of advisors in terms of communications

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in business, marketing, public relations or related field
  • At least 5 years’ experience of working in communications
  • Good analytical and organisational skills
  • Virtual management skills and knowledge of collaboration tools
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Experience in change management processes
  • Ability to work flexibly in virtual settings
  • Ability to work in a cross cultural environment
  • Fluency in English and French (spoken and written) is necessary
