The Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation (MGIC) is a non-profit affiliate of UMB with a mission to administratively support international operations of UMB Principal Investigators. Our purpose is to provide the administrative infrastructure for sizable and sustained operations outside of the U.S. Currently, MGIC operates in Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia, with registration application in-process in Haiti. These operations support the research and clinical programs of the SOM, Institute of Human Virology.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Support Central Laboratorian – COVID 19- Sero Prevalence Survey

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The PCR team will ensure that all sero survey sample are tested and the TAT conforms to the NRL rule of 24hr to testing and 48hrs to results
  • The Biorepository Lab Personnel shall ensure that all the plasma samples for serological testing on weekends are pulled out and made available to the serology lab in good time before the testing commences
  • The Biorepository Lab Personnel shall ensure that all the molecular and serological samples that were received and processed for archiving are properly received at the Biorep Lab.
  • The personnel in both the PCR AND NRL labs in addition to the above listed responsibilities shall provide all necessary support within their jurisdiction that will ensure that the testing of the Sero-Survey samples are analyzed in accordance with the existing NRL protocol for COVID testing.

Qualifications

  • A medical laboratory scientist, medical laboratory technician, skilled in QMS and Data management.
  • Experience in working on the laboratory bench for at least 1 year.
  • Experience in proficiency testing is an advantage
  • Experience with population survey will be an added advantage
  • Experience performing Quality Assurance measures in all phases of biomedical testing

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in Molecular biology and Serology with application to clinical diagnostics such as HIV viral load testing or other applications of quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (Real-time PCR) testing and diagnostic serological testing
  • Experience in leading or participating in Laboratory Quality Assurance programs (LQMS/EQA knowledge of ISO15189 or ISO17025), Laboratory Facilities and Design, Good Laboratory Practices, Bio risk management (Biosafety & Biosecurity-ISO 35001:2019), etc.)
  • Familiarity with WHO Biosafety Guidelines
  • Ability to work for long hours
  • Ability to pay attention to details
  • Ability to work with your hands and will need dexterity to work with small vials, test tubes, and delicate lab equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and routine equipment maintenance.
  • A systematic approach to tasks and the ability to follow instructions and set procedures
  • A high level of flexibility in performing the responsibilities of the position,
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
