The Head of Advocacy and Communication (HAC) is responsible for the development and implementation of SCUG overall Advocacy Strategy and Communications Plan, in promotion of children’s rights and driven by child participation. Based on SCUG programming priorities, he/she support the identification of key issues for advocacy and communications, preparing and implementing strategies and messages. The HAC ensures adequate documentation of evidence and good practice. The HAC will lead the Communications team in gathering and developing effective visual and written material that voice the gaps in fulfilment of children rights, effectively explain SCUG interventions and engage external stakeholders and donors in our work. She/he will succeed in establishing strong and strategic partnerships with like-minded organisations in advancing the rights of children. The HAC oversees traditional media and related external communications activities and leads in developing effective online social media strategies to engage the wider public. In addition, The HAC will build capacity of Technical Specialists and Regional Area Managers.

Qualification and Experience;Essential
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or higher in social science, human rights, development, international relations, journalism/mass communication.
- Masters or post graduate degree in communications and media is an added advantage
- At least 6 years experience in undertaking major advocacy, media and communication initiatives
Desirable
- Proven experience in analysing the situation of children using the child rights programming/ principles framework and a proven track record of policy influencing with partners, government and civil societies
- Excellent influencing skills, including an ability to deal with people at all levels with credibility, tact, & diplomacy
- Experience in policy and practice analysis and implementing strategic advocacy initiatives aimed at bringing changes in these areas and experience with online and social media communications strategies.
