Founded in 2002, by President William J. Clinton and Ira C. Magaziner, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (“CHAI”?) is a global health organization committed to saving lives, reducing the burden of disease and strengthening integrated health systems in the developing world.
The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Zimbabwe, is seeking a Program Officer to support the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) in executing their Malaria Elimination Program. The National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) within MoHCC recently expanded the malaria elimination campaign from 7 districts in Matabeleland South province to a total of 20 districts across 4 provinces (Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, Midlands, and Mashonaland West). The Program Officer will be the focal point for CHAI’s provincial engagement. The Program Officer will provide direct day to day support to the provincial malaria team (PEDCO, PEHO, and other team members) to support execution of malaria strategies and activities. The Program Officer will serve as a primary support person for the province, with the exclusive focus on activities that further the province’s malaria elimination agenda.
- Work as an integral part of the provincial team to provide focused support on the execution of the malaria elimination strategy;
- Support annual and monthly planning of malaria activities in the province;
- Serve as a liaison between CHAI’s malaria technical teams and the province to support translation of global guidance on elimination into successful implementation at provincial level;
- Work very closely with provincial and district health teams to strengthen adherence to surveillance algorithms and tools, including participating in training of district and health facility staff as needed;
- Support supervision of district health teams to ensure high standards in surveillance, including timely case investigation, and accurate reporting;
- Provide robust analytical and data management support to present progress in implementation of the malaria elimination strategy;
- Provide policy and strategic advice on elimination specific and general malaria debates;
- Any other duties as assigned by manager
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus on public health, development, or related field;
- Highly proficient in relevant computer applications – MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word;
- Exceptional diplomatic interpersonal skills and ability to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a multicultural environment;
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills;
- Strong communication skills – including the ability to synthesize information concisely, prepare compelling presentations and short reports;
- Ability to multi-task and be effective in high-pressure situations;
- Ability to work independently on complex projects;
- 3 years of professional work experience in the public or private sector (candidates with public health experience preferred);
- Experience working with governments and global health institutions will be a strong advantage;
- Experience working remotely with a decentralized team
