Medecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over, including France. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: MHPSS Officer

Location: Katsina
Employment Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities

  • The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Roving Officer supervise the implementation and monitoring and evaluation of MHPSS components of the programs in MdM clinics in Borno State, Nigeria and contributes to their development Under the supervision of the MHPSS Technical Advisor He/she is working in collaboration with Medical Supervisor.

Implementation  and Monitoring of the MHPSS program:

  • He/She supports the project team and trainers during the training phase
  • He/She supports to prepare of handouts and materials for training on mhGAP and Basic PSS under the supervision of the Technical Advisor.
  • He/She communicates, provides technical guidance, and support to clinic staff
  • He/She supports in the supervision process set up for MHPSS clinic staff
  • He/She supports in the collection of mental health data for project follow-up, coordinates with the MEAL team and reports to the line Manager.
  • He/She supports in monitoring and evaluation, data collection during training, supervision and on the stage of service provision

Quality Assurance of MHPSS Projects Activities and Communication

  • He/She proactively participates in relevant team meetings, as requested by the Technical advisor and Medical Supervisor
  • He/She debriefs on a weekly basis with the clinic staff
  • He/She provides follow-up on the day-to-day progress of activities at the field level, mainly the activities implemented by the clinic staff based on a previous well-set plan designed by the operational and technical managers.
  • He/She establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with relevant partners and other project stakeholders working in the project areas.
  • He/She ensures documents are recorded and maintained confidentially at all times.
  • He/she ensures that confidentiality and consent processes are in place and adhered to.
  • He/she assists in the development, modification and implementation of the technical monitoring tools for the project’s activities for all MHPSS components, in collaboration with MHPSS TA
  • He/She will support the program in proposal writing and reporting
  • He/She support the counsellors in compiling and ensuring timely submission of monthly reports
  • He/She will ensure timely submission of monthly Sitrep to the T.A and HPM

Other Activities:

  • He/She supports follow up of the referred cases, with the client and the referring counsellor.
  • He/She supports in dissemination and implementation of awareness campaign and sensitization
  • He/She supports for the workshops, training, and meetings that hosted as part of the project.
  • Other duties as assigned by the line Manager

Team management and support at the field level:

  • Provide supervision to the team in the field
  • Liaise with each member of the team in provision of health services.
  • Ensure that team have necessary available resources to achieve team objective.

Involved in project planning and intervention:

  • Participate in planning of project intervention
  • Contribute to the identification of difficulties and share propositions.
  • Participate in representation with stakeholders on behalf of the MHPSS TA.
  • Attend stakeholder meeting on behalf of MDM when called upon
  • Attend and report the meeting minutes.
  • Work closely with existing MDM team and other partners in area of operation
  • Participate in a pro-active way to MdM internal meetings (medical, security etc.)
  • Participate in all the relevant trainings organised by MDM and partners.

Hierarchical & Functional links:

  • He/she works under the supervision of the Medical Supervisor in the clinic hierarchy and technically to the Mental Health Technical Advisor.
  • The selected candidate shall respect Médecins du Monde – France’s schedule and Terms and Conditions of Engagement for National Staff and is expected to be available anytime to answer to an emergency and be flexible and available beyond normal working hours if requested.

Médecins du Monde (MdM; French pronunciation: [medsɛ̃ dy mɔ̃d]) or Doctors of the World, provides emergency and long-term medical care to the world's most vulnerable people. It also advocates to end health inequities.

It was founded in 1980 by a group of 15 French physicians, including Bernard Kouchner. It works in both the developed and developing world.

MdM was formed with a mission to provide timely emergency medical care, free of legal and administrative restrictions; to work with local populations to ensure long-term sustainability of healthcare systems; and to advocate on behalf of client populations.

After more than 35 years of work, MdM is a famously active advocate for its beneficiaries, and works to change the underlying inequalities that affect people's ability to access medical care.

MdM was formally established on 1 February 1980. Its goals were "to go where others will not, to testify to the intolerable, and to volunteer".

Its origins lay in a 1979 intervention to assist a drifting boat of Vietnamese refugees in the South China Sea. Kouchner, with volunteer doctors, journalists, and others organized a hospital boat, L'Île de lumière, to provide medical care and to report the refugees' suffering.

MdM was founded as Bernard Kouchner and 14 others doctors split from the group he previously founded, Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF, or Doctors WIthout Borders). It has been reported Kouchner felt that MSF was giving up its founding principle of témoignage ("witnessing"), which refers to aid workers making the atrocities they observe known to the public.

Kouchner was president of MdM from 1980 to 1982. In 1989, the foundation of MdM Spain paved the way for the creation of the MdM international network. In 2015, the MdM global network consisted of fifteen associations; France (founded 1980), Spain (founded 1989), Greece (founded 1990), Italy and Switzerland (both founded 1993), Sweden (founded 1994), Cyprus (founded 1995 by Elena Theoharous[1]), Argentina (founded 1998), Belgium, Canada and Portugal (all founded 1999), as well as in Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Netherlands, and the USA.
