The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
As Head of Finance, you will provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure that existing financial management standards in the programmes are carried out efficiently and promptly, thereby making a significant contribution towards the success of our programme work. You will uphold Welthungerhilfe (WHH) organisational policies and procedures, in line with international accounting standards and donor requirements as relevant. You will lead on all financial aspects including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, bookkeeping and audit preparation. Based in Ouagadougou, this position ensures support for WHH Burkina Faso program areas throughout the country.
Your responsibilities
- Oversee the financial management of the Country Office and project offices
- Ensure that financial administrative processes are auditable and run efficiently, aligned with WHH policies and procedures as well as donor contractual agreements, promoting innovation when appropriate and relevant
- Be an active member of the Senior Management Team, ensuring information flows about major developments in the Finance Department, and regularly prepare and present risk analyses
- Lead the budget development of new projects in an inclusive manner
- Lead the contextualization and updates of finance manuals and procedures
- Ensure donor reports are accurate, submitted timely, and that all donor queries are responded to
- Support partner organizations in matters relating to financial management and enhance their capacity to fulfill their contractual obligations
- Lead and develop the finance team (including staff planning, training, performance and development)
- Analyze the gaps and ensure relevant staffing is available across the country to fullfil all finance-related tasks according to WHH and donors standards
- Coordinate internal and external audits, and ensure implementation of audit recommendations with respective departments
Your profile
- A university/college degree in a field commensurate with this position
- At least 5-years of working experience in a similar or equivalent position
- Experience of co-funded projects and well versed with institutional donors rules and regulations, especially ECHO, EU, BMZ and GFFO
- Profound leadership experience in managing a diverse team, excellent communication and coordination skills
- Proven track record of capacity building of team members financial skills, advanced coaching and mentoring skills
- Strong coordination, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environement requiring flexibility
- Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
- Excellent spoken and written French and English
