Background

horizont3000 (Austrian Organisation for Development Cooperation) is an international non-governmental organization that supports Partner Organizations in East Africa in the areas of natural resources, rural development, and human rights. horizont3000 is currently implementing the “Thrive Digitalisation Project,” which aims to improve living conditions through digital solutions, enhance digital skills, and contribute to digital transformation among beneficiaries of 25+ partner organizations in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

In line with previous trainings provided in Excel and Kobo Collect, partner organizations have expressed the need for more advanced data analysis tools to enhance decision-making, reporting, and overall NGO programming. In response, horizont3000 plans to organize a training on Advanced Data Analysis and Presentation Using PowerBI, equipping partner organizations with the necessary skills to integrate data from Excel and Kobo Collect and create dynamic data visualizations to support their operational needs.

This training will consist of one comprehensive session followed by an online follow-up support session to ensure practical application of the skills acquired.

Objective of the Consultancy

The objective of this consultancy is to provide partner organizations with the skills to analyze and present data effectively using PowerBI, building on their foundational knowledge in Excel and Kobo Collect. The training will focus on advanced data analysis techniques, visual storytelling, and creating dashboards tailored to NGO programming needs.

The consultant will deliver:

  • A 3.5 hours virtual training session on Advanced Data Analysis and Presentation using PowerBI.
  • An interactive virtual follow-up (technical support) running for a maximum 20 hours to ensure that the project partner organisations effectively apply the skills learned.

Scope of Work

The consultancy will involve the following activities:

Preparation

  • Develop a detailed training curriculum on Advanced Data Analysis and Presentation using PowerBI.
  • Prepare learning materials, including case studies and practical exercises tailored to the data analysis needs of partner organizations.
  • Customize content to link the training with previous sessions on Excel and Kobo Collect.

Delivery of On-line Training Sessions

A 3.5-hour comprehensive training session that covers;

  • Integrating data from Excel and Kobo Collect into PowerBI.
    • Advanced data modeling and transformation in PowerBI.
    • Creating dynamic dashboards and reports.
    • Best practices in data visualization for decision-making and reporting.

A 20 hours in maximum follow-up support that includes:

  • Addressing technical challenges faced by participants during the application of PowerBI.
    • Providing feedback on participants’ reports and dashboards.
    • A Q&A session for troubleshooting and further clarification.

c) Post-Training Support

  • Offer additional resources or recommendations to help participants apply the tools effectively.
    • Provide feedback on participants’ progress in adopting PowerBI within their organizations.

Expected Deliverables

  • A detailed training curriculum for the PowerBI sessions, linked to Excel and Kobo Collect.
  • Training materials, including presentations, case studies, and practical exercises.
  • A summary report after each session, highlighting key takeaways and participant feedback.
  • A final report summarizing participant progress, challenges, and recommendations for future capacity-building initiatives.

Duration and Timeline

The consultancy will be conducted over two virtual sessions, as outlined below:

  • Comprehensive Training Session: October 31, 2024
  • Follow-up Session: by November 15, 2024

Budget

The consultant is expected to propose a budget that covers their fees (based on an hourly or daily rate), communication costs, taxes, and any other relevant expenses. The budget should be submitted along with the technical proposal. The total budget for the scope of work outlined under 3.a) and b) should not exceed 6,000,000 Uganda Shillings including taxes.

The post training support will be paid according to the actual coaching hours spent with partners. Thus, please indicate your hourly rate in Uganda Shillings including Withholding Taxes in your financial offer. The actual number of hours needed will be determined by the demand of the partner organizations.

Required Qualifications

The consultant should meet the following qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in data analysis and data visualization using PowerBI.
  • Experience with Excel and Kobo Collect data integration.
  • Prior experience delivering training on advanced data analysis for NGOs or non-profit organizations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver engaging virtual training sessions.
  • Familiarity with online platforms such as Zoom, MS Teams, or Moodle.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
