As Head of Program, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the multi-annual country program and strategy as well as for its monitoring in order to maximize Welthungerhilfe’s impact on the basis of the general organization’s strategy and quality standards. You will lead the program team at Country Office level, and will support project teams and implementing partners in matters related to project management. You will review and assess the status of the program related processes and workflows, identify gaps and develop measures for improvement. With your dynamic leadership and your passion, you will make a difference in emergency and development programs in Burkina Faso.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute towards the definition and orientation of the program strategy, further develop the concept of Welthungerhilfe’s intervention in Burkina in close coordination with the Country Director.
  • Guide the strategic direction of the program to ensure feasibility, sustainability and effectiveness.
  • Proactively identify funding opportunities, lead and coordinate concept and proposal development processes with key internal stakeholders and relevant partners.
  • Supervise the implementation of projects and programs according to WHH standards and donor requirements. Oversee reporting, review documentation and support project cycle management.
  • Together with the Emergency Coordinator, monitor the humanitarian situation in country
  • Design and lead the emergency programs and support the preparation of Emergency Prepardeness and Response Plan.
  • Ensures high quality standards, including an effective M&E system.
  • Identify lessons learnt from projects and approaches, and ensure capitalisation.
  • Support the partner strategy in Burkina, identify potential new partners, ensure active collaboration and capacity building.
  • Lead and develop the program team (including staff planning, objectives, performance and development).
  • Identify training needs and enhance country team skills through trainings and learning sessions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, partners and other stakeholders to enhance communication and collaboration.
  • Work closely together with the finance, HR and logistics departments to ensure compliance and coordination.

Your profile

  • A university/college degree in a field commensurate with this position.
  • At least 5-years of working experience in a similar or equivalent position
  • Proven expertise in managing large-scale emergency and development grants, and a portfolio of multiple donors
  • Experience working with implementing partners
  • Analytical and conceptual competences
  • Organizational and coordination skills
  • Profound leadership experience in managing a diverse team, excellent communication skills
  • Proven track record of capacity building of team members, advanced coaching and mentoring skills
  • Regional working experience would be an advantage
  • Excellent spoken and written French and English, German language skills would be an asset
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
