JOB SUMMARY

A part of Duke, Duke Global Health Innovation Center (Duke GHIC), and its partner organization, Innovations in Healthcare (IiH), share a vision of improving global health through innovation. Duke GHIC, housed within Duke University and part of the Duke Global Health Institute, connects health innovation, policy, and global health initiatives to address critical health challenges.

In collaboration with IiH, a Duke-affiliated non-profit working with over 100 healthcare innovators across 90+ countries, the two organizations focus on scaling impactful health solutions. Together, they enhance access to quality, affordable healthcare by curating, scaling, and studying health innovations while engaging with experts, students, and partners from both the public and private sectors. Duke GHIC also works closely with the Duke Margolis Institute for Health Policy, leveraging interdisciplinary research and education to inform policy-making and improve health outcomes.

The Senior Manager, Research and Programs, based in Nairobi, Kenya, will be a Kenyan national who will provide leadership and expertise in conducting complex research activities on behalf of Duke GHIC and IiH. This is a hybrid position, offering flexibility in working arrangements, and the candidate must have time zone flexibility. The role involves planning, organizing, and communicating on research studies related to global health innovation and health equity.

They will work closely with all team members to advance health innovation and policy research agenda.
The Senior Manager, Research and Programs must have experience impacting change in the following organizational goal areas:

  • Scaling Impact of Integrated Innovations: supporting the scale-up of innovations that lead to whole-person, integrated delivery systems.
  • Accelerating End-to-End Access to Biomedical Innovation: strengthening the evidence base for equitable and sustainable global access to biomedical innovations (e.g. vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, etc.) and enabling impactful access to health programs across life sciences organizations.
  • Empowering Health Leaders: empowering health leaders and change agents to translate insights into changes in policy and decisions; engaging diverse learners, expanding professional education, and integrating capacity-strengthening into programs.

As noted, the Senior Manager, Research and Programs, will be an employee of Preferred Personnel Africa (PPA). For day-to-day activity, the Senior Manager, Research and Programs, will take directions from Assistant Director, Research and Programs.

SUMMARIZED DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND DESIRED SKILLS

  • Master’s degree in a related field is required (e.g., MPH, MPP, or other relevant Master’s degree).
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience, preferably with a highly profiled health stakeholder, with a track record of contributing to large, complex research and/or policy programs and translating research outputs into impact.
  • Demonstrated record of contributing to the design and implementation of large scale or complex mixed-methods research. Demonstrated record of publishing research outputs as a primary author, including but not limited to, manuscripts, white papers, case studies, blogs, etc.
  • Strongly prefer experience in the health sector, product development and delivery, health innovation, health policy, health systems strengthening, and/or health security.
  • Strongly prefer global experience, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills.
  • Extensive research skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience effectively interfacing with all levels of management, and across cultures; exercise diplomacy, tact, professionalism, responsiveness, a high degree of flexibility, to resolve concerns in a fair and equitable manner.
