Synopsis
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for maintaining financial records, processing transactions, preparing reports and budgets, and ensuring compliance with MCC financial policies. This role requires working closely with MCC Partners, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure efficient financial management for the GAC LINCZ Project in Zimbabwe. The Accounting Assistant will support the country office staff and build capacity around financial needs, ensuring effective financial management and compliance with MCC policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements as needed.
- Support MCC Zimbabwe office with accounting entries in the Faswin database and regular financial reports.
- Prepare and ensure accuracy of country office financial records (budget additions, monthly projections, HQ reports, severance calculations).
- Support the Accountant in the coordination of financial audits for the project and follow up on action points.
- Ensure MCC procurement procedures and policies are followed, and vehicle summary is maintained.
- Assist in the facilitation of trainings for MCC staff and partners on standard MCC financial management and specific project reporting expectations
- Support the process of conducting partner financial reviews.
- Prepare country and/ or project wire requests and review Personal Monthly Reports (PMRs).
- Ensure timely payments.
- Support country office to ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to financial management and the management of associated risks.
- Support country office with Year End accounting.
- Follow-up on FS trainings and provide further support to country office staff and Partners.
- Coordinate with, and assist, country office to comply with local government regulations regarding MCC staff employment, employment taxes and severance pay.
- Prepare monthly payroll.
- Perform cash box administration.
- Support the Accountant in reviewing partner project financial reports.
- Support Partners by sharing best financial practices and budgeting.
- Responsible for well organized filing ensuring financial documents/ files are maintained in a confidential manner.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the accountant.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting or Business Administration
- Prior work experience of 5 years with international humanitarian organizations, non-government, or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of staff and varying levels of financial capacity.
- Ability to train staff in accounting and basic budgeting
- English fluency
- Experience using accounting software and other finance platforms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Experience using payroll software.
- Attention to detail, ability to organize work in a timely and methodical way
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of financial information.
- Willingness to learn new things.
- Availability to travel in- country and internationally (where necessary
