Background

FilmAid Kenya uses the power of film and multimedia to inform, inspire, and empower refugees and host communities. Visual communication plays a critical role in raising awareness, engaging communities, and amplifying the voices of marginalized populations. To strengthen its communications and creative outputs, FilmAid Kenya seeks the services of a Graphics Designer to support the design and production of high-quality visual materials.

Purpose of the Assignment The Graphics Designer will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and delivering creative visual materials for FilmAid Kenya’s programs, campaigns, and events. The role requires the production of visually compelling outputs that align with FilmAid’s branding guidelines and effectively communicate messages to diverse audiences.

Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities

The Graphics Designer will:

● Timely development of concepts, graphics, and layouts by defining requirements, visualizing, and creating graphics including illustrations, logos, layouts, and photos.

● Conceptualize visuals based on programmatic and partner requirements.

● Use appropriate colors, fonts, and layouts for each graphic.

● Determine size and arrangement of copy and illustrative material, as well as font style and size.

● Review final layouts and suggest improvements when required.

● Amend designs following feedback from program teams and partners.

● Ensure all graphics and layouts are visually appealing, accessible, and on-brand.

● Liaise with external printers or production teams to ensure deadlines are met and outputs are delivered to the highest quality.

● Keep up to date with emerging design and software trends to enhance FilmAid Kenya’s creative outputs.

Deliverables

● Branded visual assets including posters, banners, flyers, brochures, infographics, and social media graphics.

● Event branding and promotional materials for campaigns such as the FilmAid Film Festival (FAFF).

● Print-ready and digital versions of reports, publications, and awareness materials.

● Archived design files uploaded to the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system with proper metadata.

Duration & Location

● Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension based on performance and project needs).

● Location: Nairobi with possible field travel to Dadaab and Kakuma. 6R

Reporting

The Graphics Designer will report to the Creative Manager and collaborate closely with program leads and field teams.

Qualifications & Experience

● Degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field.

● Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects) or other professional design tools.

● Demonstrated experience in designing across both digital and print platforms.

● Strong portfolio showcasing creativity, branding, and visual storytelling.

● Knowledge of motion graphics and video editing is an added advantage.’

● Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt designs based on feedback.

FilmAid International is a non-profit humanitarian organization that uses film to educate and entertain displaced people around the world. FilmAid was founded during the Balkan crisis in 1999 by producer Caroline Baron (Capote, Monsoon Wedding) to assist with refugee communities in Macedonia suffering the effects of war, poverty, displacement and disaster. Since 1999, FilmAid has worked in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other global aid organizations to help bring information and training to more than two million people worldwide. FilmAid produces and distributes community-based films on public health and safety issues such as maternal health, HIV, cholera, gender-based violence and conflict resolution. Using inflatable screens and other ‘Mobile Cinema’ units, FilmAid screenings aims to overcome language and literacy boundaries. FilmAid currently works in Kenya, in the large refugee camps of Dadaab and Kakuma as well as informal settlements in Nairobi and Mombassa, with Burmese refugees in Thailand and also in Haiti.
