Technical Partner for the Next-Gen Climate Cooperative in Jigawa State 3 views0 applications

Background

Pathfinder International, through its women-led innovation platform Women&Co, seeks a technical partner (“the Consultant”) to lead the climate methodology, community data system, technical facilitation and evidence synthesis for the Next-Gen Climate Cooperative (NCC) pilot in Jigawa State, from November 2026 to June 2027.

NCC is a women-led climate resilience initiative working at the intersection of climate, health and leadership. It positions women as climate data collectors, entrepreneurs and advisors to government rather than as beneficiaries. Jigawa faces annual flooding along the Hadejia River, drought and land degradation, and women make up most of its farm workforce but are rarely part of climate planning.

The pilot runs in 2 Local Government Areas (LGAs) with about 60 core participants (about 30 per LGA), drawn from existing women’s and youth groups, trained as community climate data collectors. The pilot tests a lean, locally anchored NCC model to establish what it is, what it costs, what works and what can be replicated. It is aligned with the draft Jigawa State Climate Change Policy and is implemented with the Ministries of Health, Environment and Climate Change and Women Affairs and Social Development.

The pilot’s first learning cycle is the NCC Jigawa Climate Information Sprint, which asks: is useful climate information reaching women in time to act? It follows women from receiving climate information, to understanding and trusting it, acting on it and seeing results, and identifies the barriers and support gaps that remain, across agriculture, heat and health, and water and flooding. The Consultant will build the data system behind the sprint and an interactive NCC Jigawa Climate Information Dashboard that presents its findings, alongside women’s own stories, for the pilot team, State partners and funders. The dashboard is a Climate Information Sprint prototype and is not intended to be the final Jigawa Climate Dashboard.

Objectives of the assignment

The Consultant will provide the technical backbone of the pilot. Specifically, the assignment will:

  1. Ground the pilot in a sound understanding of local climate risk and livelihoods in the 2 pilot LGAs.
  2. Equip participants with practical climate leadership and community data skills.
  3. Build a simple, women-operated community climate data system and an interactive dashboard that answer the Climate Information Sprint questions.
  4. Turn community evidence into practical climate and livelihood solutions and into policy-relevant messages for the State.
  5. Document what the NCC technical model involves, what worked, and what is needed to replicate it.

Pathfinder is driven by the conviction that all people, regardless of where they live, have the right to decide whether and when to have children, to exist free from fear and stigma, and to lead the lives they choose.

Since 1957, we have partnered with local governments, communities, and health systems to remove barriers to critical sexual and reproductive health services. Together, we expand access to contraception, promote healthy pregnancies, save women’s lives, and stop the spread of new HIV infections, wherever the need is most urgent.

Our work ensures millions of women, men, and young people are able to choose their own paths forward. Change lives with us.

OUR VISION

Pathfinder envisions a world where everyone has access to contraception, where there are zero new HIV infections, where no woman dies from preventable pregnancy-related complications, and where everyone leads a healthy sexual and reproductive life.

OUR MISSION

We champion sexual and reproductive health and rights worldwide, mobilizing communities most in need to break through barriers and forge their own path to a healthier future.

OUR VALUES

Respect: Everything we do is built on a foundation of understanding and respect for the values, beliefs, knowledge, and capabilities of our staff, our local partners, and the people we serve.

Courage: We go where others often won’t—among the most marginalized populations, in the most challenging environments, and in the hardest-to-reach regions—and do what others often don’t—confronting obstacles head-on and challenging the status quo—to achieve our mission.

Collaboration: We embrace diverse perspectives and disciplines, joining with partners at the local, national and global levels towards a common vision and the realization of transformational change.

Innovation: Our staff and partners seek out the most effective solutions, piloting new approaches and adapting current practices to respond to the ever-evolving nature of our work and the communities we serve.

Integrity: We earn the trust of donors, partners, governments, and the people we serve by rigorously measuring performance, sharing our results, and holding ourselves accountable.
