The role
Save the Children International is a ‘dual mandate’ organisation that seeks to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and create lasting change in children’s lives. The Humanitarian CCS Coordinator is a member of the PDQ team; his/her role is the Focal Point of CCS-Cadre Commun Santé, a platform of NGOs funded by ECHO to implement emergency health interventions in the northern regions of Mali. The CCS Coordinator will be seconded to the Health Cluster, Nutrition Cluster/Ministry of Health (MOH), Health Working Group to serve as co-coordinator of the overall health emergency response in Mali.
The purpose of this position is to:
- Improve coordination and harmonization of approaches among all health emergency actors
- strengthening the government’s capacity; and ensuring ECHO partners’ active contribution to
- Involvement in joint monitoring of individual and common plans of action for health interventions
- Improve coordination among all health emergency and development platforms
- Represent CCS in all Health and Nutrition Coordination meetings
Qualifications and experience
Essential
- Degree in medicine and/or Public Health.
- Essential: Minimum of 5 years international field experience, of which at least 3 in managing and coordinating health programs in chronic and acute, sudden-onset emergencies.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, manage and adapt management style according to need;
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills and ability to convene stakeholders and facilitate a policy process among UN, NGOs, national health authorities and donors;
- Producing results;
- Fostering integration and teamwork
- In-depth knowledge of emergency relief policies and practices within the UN, other UN Specialized Agencies, donor agencies, national and international NGOs;
- Sound knowledge and experience about national disaster prevention and preparedness programs;
- Familiarity with database design and other tools for information management;
- Demonstrated diplomatic, management and interpersonal communication skills to liaise, negotiate and advocate with Governments, donors, and key stakeholders including other implementing agencies.
- Proven ability to write technical reports, reviews, program/project documents and conduct presentations.
- At least 10 years of experience in managing, implementing or coordinating complex health service programs in developing countries, and specifically previous experience in a similar position.
- Ability to speak and write clear English and French (French being the working language in Mali).
Desirable:
- Experience of Save the Children’s programmes.
- Commitment to the values and mission of Save the Children
- Ability to travel to the field, which is expected to be 30% of the work
