JOB TASKS
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Supervisor, the Nutrition Screener will be responsible for the following main activities in order to ensure the quality of care in the mobile clinics:

  • Perform and keep records of anthropometrical measurements
  • Perform appetite test and observe intake of RUTF for children under treatment
  • Check the immunization status and ensure every child in the program is immunized
  • Ensure proper organization, cleanliness and tidiness of the waiting/appetite area
  • Stock management in link with mobile clinics
  • Distribution of drugs during the mobile clinics
  • Collection, computerization and analysis of weekly drugs consumption
  • Reporting and attendance to different meetings

TASKS DESCRIPTION:

  • Nutrition management in line with CMAM activities
  • Measure different parameters: weight, height, oedema, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) and temperature of children.
  • Record in individual patient’s OTP health card and CMAM registration books all information measured, i.e. MUAC, weight and height, Z-score, oedema, temperature.
  • Report to medical staff/nutrition supervisor on any possible health problems or issues (big loss of weight, non-respondents, missing file).
  • Report pathologic symptoms such as anorexia/appetite failure, not drinking, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, dehydration, apathy, lethargy to the medical staff for consultations and clinical examination.
  • Inform caretakers on the functioning of the OTP: daily activity plan (expected progress of the child while in treatment, expected length of stay, appetite test, treatment protocols and compliance, weekly follow up visits etc.) and other general information
  • Inform patients and caretakers about results of measuring, i.e. weight, height, MUAC difference from previous measurements
  • Perform appetite test, directly observe intake of RUTF and record the result on patient’s OTP card/file
  • Provide clean drinking water and cups to the children and encourage proper handwashing before the test
  • Look after all equipment and materials provided (salter scale, thermometer, height-board, cups etc)
  • Record and report daily measurements, i.e. number and results, compile at the end of each day.
  • Report to nutrition supervisor on any incidence regarding weight, MUAC and/or on equipment or material (broken, missing).
  • Check the immunization status of children in the program and promote the importance of vaccination
  • Participate in nutritional surveys and assessments, or outreach activities outside health facility
  • Transmits topics on health education in the waiting area to the group of mothers/caretakers
  • Encourage mothers to breast-feed. Promote the benefits of breastfeeding and proper weaning practices and proper handling and preparation of food.
  • Promote behavioral change communication (BCC) and C-IYCF education.
  • Transmits topics on nutrition education in the waiting area to the group of mothers/caretakers.
  • Ensure, maintain and promote confidentiality regarding all information registered on files
  • Keep record of daily attendance, exits (cured, defaulter, death or referral), and collaborate with the community mobilizers in tracing of absentees and defaulters to ensure they come back to OTP.
  • Report daily to the hierarchical supervisor about daily admissions, daily discharges, absentees, defaulters.
  • Participate in any other related activities as requested by the nutrition supervisor or hierarchical supervisor.
  • Stock management in link with mobile clinics
  • Prepare all the necessary drugs, material and equipment for mobile clinics and ensure that everything is ready before to leave MdM office
  • Realize the pharmacy stock management (in/out) at the mobile clinic
  • Calculate daily consumption for each item in order to anticipate any shortage
  • Do a weekly physical inventory of mobile clinic pharmacy
  • Prepare weekly drugs orders to MdM central pharmacy with the assistance of the medical doctors and paramedics staff
  • Distribution of drugs during the mobile clinics
  • Give the drugs according to the medical prescription.
  • Ask the medical doctor or the midwife to complete their prescription in case of incomplete information (dosage, duration…)
  • Indicate the name, presentation and dosage of the drugs on the dispensing bag.
  • Explain to the patient how to take the treatment and make sure that the explanations have been understood
  • Explain the potential side effects of a drug to the patient
  • Fill in the daily consumption form for each item
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is respected and treat all the patients with respect and dignity
  • Collection, computerization and analysis of weekly drugs consumption
  • Collect the daily mobile clinic consumption
  • Participate in the weekly computerization  and analysis of the drugs consumption
  • Reporting and attendance to different meetings
  • Prepare a weekly activities report to submit to the pharmacist and team leader
  • Participate in a pro-active way to MdM internal meetings (medical, security…)
  • Participate in all the  trainings organized by MDM

OTHERS:

  • Give suggestions to improve the functioning of MDM mobile clinics
  • Participate to the loading and unloading of the vehicles and to  the setting up of the mobile clinics
  • Be flexible in performing his/her duties to ensure that beneficiaries are getting good quality services
  • Is responsible for the proper use and maintenance of assigned equipment
  • Perform other additional duties on request of the team leader
  • Inform immediately the security focal point in case of any security problem in the field

PROFIL REQUIRED:

  • Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW)
  • Experience in similar position for at least 2 years
  • Good knowledge in nutrition
  • Strong sense of responsibilities and organization skills
  • Strong work ethic and rigor
  • Languages (spoken and written): English and Hausa
  • Flexibility
  • Team player

Médecins du Monde (MdM; French pronunciation: [medsɛ̃ dy mɔ̃d]) or Doctors of the World, provides emergency and long-term medical care to the world's most vulnerable people. It also advocates to end health inequities.

It was founded in 1980 by a group of 15 French physicians, including Bernard Kouchner. It works in both the developed and developing world.

MdM was formed with a mission to provide timely emergency medical care, free of legal and administrative restrictions; to work with local populations to ensure long-term sustainability of healthcare systems; and to advocate on behalf of client populations.

After more than 35 years of work, MdM is a famously active advocate for its beneficiaries, and works to change the underlying inequalities that affect people's ability to access medical care.

MdM was formally established on 1 February 1980. Its goals were "to go where others will not, to testify to the intolerable, and to volunteer".

Its origins lay in a 1979 intervention to assist a drifting boat of Vietnamese refugees in the South China Sea. Kouchner, with volunteer doctors, journalists, and others organized a hospital boat, L'Île de lumière, to provide medical care and to report the refugees' suffering.

MdM was founded as Bernard Kouchner and 14 others doctors split from the group he previously founded, Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF, or Doctors WIthout Borders). It has been reported Kouchner felt that MSF was giving up its founding principle of témoignage ("witnessing"), which refers to aid workers making the atrocities they observe known to the public.

Kouchner was president of MdM from 1980 to 1982. In 1989, the foundation of MdM Spain paved the way for the creation of the MdM international network. In 2015, the MdM global network consisted of fifteen associations; France (founded 1980), Spain (founded 1989), Greece (founded 1990), Italy and Switzerland (both founded 1993), Sweden (founded 1994), Cyprus (founded 1995 by Elena Theoharous[1]), Argentina (founded 1998), Belgium, Canada and Portugal (all founded 1999), as well as in Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Netherlands, and the USA.
