The Samson Institute for Ageing Research (SIFAR) is based at Highlands House, Cape Town. It is an institute focused on research to improve knowledge about the needs of older persons both locally within South Africa and globally, to improve training of those persons involved in care of the elderly and to inform best practice guidelines for care of the elderly. The main thrust of the program will be related to primary health care needs of older persons living in the Western Cape. The vision is that an effective and locally relevant program, based on good research, for the healthcare needs of older persons will be developed in the Western Cape. Secondary aims are for the information and knowledge gathered to be both nationally and internationally relevant so as to enhance the wellbeing of older persons and improve their lives, develop programs for enhancing the skills of persons working with older persons and to engage civil society, lay persons, government and policy makers in discussions about the needs of older persons.
Samson Institute for Ageing Research (Sifar) is a South African Research Institute that conducts research on the need of the ageing population and develops Clinical Assessment Protocols and training programs for care givers that works with older persons.
