The Port Elizabeth Mental Health is a long established registered non-governmental organisation. The NGO provides a needs specific services to persons with mental disabilities and their families and those people experience life crisis. The organisation is in existence since 1939. The services offered by the organisation include Social Work Intervention Services, Life skills training and prevention towards better mental health, Youth Skills Development Centres with the focus on advancing to job opportunities and Residential Care Facilities to youth and adults with psycho-social disabilities.
AREAS OF OPERATION
The organisation operates in Port Elizabeth which is situated in the Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality of the Eastern Cape. We operate mostly in the previously disadvantaged and poorer areas of Port Elizabeth.

To be a dynamic movement that serves as an effective resource to empower people to attain optimal mental well being and quality of life in a just society.
MISSION
Work actively with the community to achieve the highest possible level of mental health for all by:
- enabling people to participate in the identification of individual and community mental health needs and by responding appropriately;
- developing effective but affordable services to meet the needs of people with psycho-social disabilities and or intellectual disabilities and their families and those having difficulty coping with everyday situations;
- creating public awareness of mental health issues, and
- striving for the recognition and protection of mental health rights for all people.
The organisation aspires towards a caring and equal service system within a just and fair society.
The organisation believes in a services delivering system reflected in an accountable partnership between the Organisation and the individual or community. It accepts the uniqueness of each individual and recognizes the potential of people. Its management is responsive and based on participation, mutual trust and respect. Its structure is such that it encourages and facilitates the development of competence and commitment to the mental health movement in its management, staff and volunteers.
