Overview:
Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego has been working in Malawi since 1999 implementing a wide-range of interventions in maternal health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. Current projects include facility and community-based HIV testing services, and HIV prevention.
Responsibilities:
The Project Director is responsible for leading the CDC-funded Gateway project for Malawi. The Project Director leads the technical direction and management oversight with the deputy Project Director in the areas of HIV testing, prevention, linkage to care, and treatment, and DREAMS initiatives for adolescent girls and young women. They will ensure that project implementation strategies, interventions and approaches are delivered to the required standard and in accordance with the latest evidence, best practices, and national and international guidelines, and are compliant with PEPFAR and donor.
The Project Director is responsible for ensuring the project meets donor targets, driving innovative approaches for a highly targeted approach to HTS, and ensuring linkage to and adherence in HIV care and treatment, and use of a data driven approach to problem solve, strategize and focus interventions. They will ensure that local sub-partners perform according to their agreement and assist in enhancing their capacity to deliver with the project team.
The Project Director will be responsible for representing the project and ensuring effective collaboration with the donor and Ministry of Health (MOH), and will ensure timely and cost-effective project implementation and reporting, to ensure the project delivers on scope, on schedule and on budget. They will supervise a team of highly qualified staff and will report to the Country Director and may act on occasions in her absence.

Required Qualifications:
- Clinical background (required MD or nursing);
- Master’s degree in public health, or equivalent;
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in HIV testing, prevention, care and/or treatment programs, preferably in Malawi;
- Demonstrated ability to manage large USG-supported public health projects and budgets,
- Experience in designing and managing complex HIV/AIDS prevention programs, with 8+ years of progressively more responsible management experience;
- Experience of working under PEPFAR funded programs, and USG donor’s regulations;
- Experience of supervising, supporting and coaching staff in all aspects related to HIV prevention, care and treatment;
- Demonstrated in-depth understanding of Malawi’s healthcare systems and solid experience of working in Malawi and understanding of the country context in particular within the HIV programming context;
- Sensitive to issues working with marginalized groups within the Malawi context;
- Proven leadership skills and expertise in strategic program planning, implementation and management;
- Highly articulate in written and spoken English with effective communication skills, instilling trust and confidence, and excellent interpersonal and written and oral presentation skills;
- Ability to work in a complex environment charged with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform;
- Motivated, passionate, and hardworking; and
- Proven experience in writing abstracts.
- Ability to travel within Malawi and internationally.
