TITLE: Psychologist

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Cairo Field Office/Operation Unit a

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the supervision of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Project Officer, the psychologist will be responsible for providing individual counselling sessions for Unaccompanied and Separated children in needed of Psychotherapy identified through the project activities and referrals. S/he will also be responsible for organising group support and awareness sessions and refer those with acute psychological needs to specialized services.

  • Direct (Solid): Mental Health and Psychosocial Project Officer
  • Indirect (Dotted): Mental Health and Psychosocial Technical Advisor (MHPSS TA).

Staff reporting to this post: N/A

Role Dimensions: Close coordination with the facilitators and case management team

Travel: It is expected from this position to attend regular weekly meeting in SCI Main office in Maadi

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Conduct individual sessions with children and youth; in need of psychotherapy as required (e.g.: CBT, DBT, TF, etc).
  • Prepare and lead on group counselling sessions (PTSD, depression, etc) with target groups referred from project’s sites.
  • Identify, assess, develop intervention and rehabilitation plans, and refer severe cases to appropriate psychiatric service providers as required.
  • Prepare progress reports for all cases supported.
  • Collaborate with the MEAL team to develop monthly required repots and data.
  • Contribute to the design and facilitation of other project activities building resilience and wellbeing of target group; in addition to delivering awareness raising sessions
  • Document activities and contribute to project reports as required.
  • Participate in weekly peer supervision mechanisms with SCI team of psychologists in collaboration with MHPSS advisor.
  • Participate in regular individual supervision meetings with the MHPSS Project Officer.
  • Assist the Child Protection team in material development, training deliveries on topics regarding needs identified.
  • Ensure that project activities are implemented in line with SCI’s policies and procedures, and adhering to donor requirements and guidelines;
  • Ensure Child Safeguarding standards are understood and met in liaison with the Child Safeguarding focal point.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, master’s degree is preferred;
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in psychological counselling;

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Previous experience working with youth and children with mental disability is a must,
  • Good in English and fluent Arabic (spoken and written) is required;
  • Excellent interactive facilitation skills;
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Previous experience working with refugee/marginalized communities in Egypt; SGVB survivors and unaccompanied separated children is essential
  • Familiar with African refugee/migrants context.
  • Commitment to SCI’s values and Child Safeguarding policy;
  • Basic case management skills are required;
