Job Title: Intern – Health and Nutrition
Reports to: Officer – Health and Nutrition
Duty Station: Nairobi
Contract Details:
Three (3) months with a possibility of extension to six (6) months
Monthly Stipend – Kes 20,000
Job Summary:
Concern seeks to improve health and nutrition status, reduce morbidity and mortality of the most vulnerable populations (children under 5 years, adolescents and women of reproductive age) within the informal settlements of Nairobi by strengthening health and nutrition systems at County, sub-county, health facility and community levels.
The incumbent will support the urban health and nutrition team to provide technical leadership, guidance as well as providing hands on support to Ministry of Health (MoH), and community groups to enhance their capacity and skills in the implementation of High Impact Nutrition interventions in Nairobi County
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
· Promote ownership and integration of nutrition services into existing medical systems including the development of a concrete plan of action for the programme at the health facilities and community levels
· Support in documentation of the project implementation process to generate lessons learnt as well as case studies and consolidating and writing of reports and briefs
· Assist in conducting joint support supervision visits with Nairobi Sub – County health management team members and other partners involved in the delivery of nutrition services at Sub-county level
· Support the coordination of the implementation of MIYCN activities at the health facilities and at the community levels
· Liaising with programme support units in Nairobi to provide logistical and administrative support to the health and nutrition programme
· Coordinate implementation of HiNi at community level including growth monitoring and promotion within informal day care centres in Nairobi in liaison with the community health strategy focal persons and Sub – County nutrition officers
· Participate in monitoring of project activities through field support visits and joint support supervision
· Participate in planning and coordinating nutrition related assessments and surveys
· Representing Concern in Health Facility In-charges meetings
Responding to Emergencies:
· Participate and contribute as necessary towards Concern’s Emergency response as and when necessary
· Comply with Concern’s health, safety and security guidelines during emergencies

Job Specification:
· A Bachelor’s degree in Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science, Nutrition/Community Nutrition or related field
· Dully registered with the Kenya Nutritionists and Dietician’s Institute (KNDI)
· Excellent computer literacy (Web, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
· Fluent in both spoken and written English and Kiswahili

a) Status: Although not considered a staff member of Concern Worldwide, I shall be subject to the authority of the Country Director and that delegated by him/her to the Heads of departments and Officers. I understand that I am not entitled to the privileges and immunities accorded the staff members.
b) Financial Support: I shall be paid a stipend by Concern Worldwide of Kes 20,000 per month to cater for my transport.
c) Medical Health and Insurance Cover: Concern accepts no responsibility for costs or fatality arising from illness or accidents incurred during the internship; therefore, I must carry adequate and regular medical and insurance. I will be covered by the following health and life insurances during the internship period (your application will not be processed unless you provide this information!).

f) Employment Prospects: Concern Internship Programme is not connected with employment and there is no expectancy of such. However, Interns can apply for posts advertised internally to Concern staff where recruitment policy will apply.

Concern Worldwide on the other hand takes responsibilities as follows:
a) Recommendation letter: Upon successful completion of internship, Concern shall give a recommendation letter detailing duties undertaken during the internship.
b) Location: An Intern can be requested to travel to the field by the departmental head. In this case, transport and accommodation (where applicable) shall be provided by the organization.
