Under the direct supervision of Accounting and Finance Manager, the Accountant 2 oversees reconciling, preparing, and analysing the accounting records and financial reports of the delegation/other structure under his/her responsibility.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares accounting entries in the accounting software on a regular basis.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of accounting transactions in accordance with financial procedures.
  • Ensures that operations run smoothly through efficient cash-flow management, covering the fund needs of the delegation/structure.
  • Keeps files up to date and guarantees proper filing of relevant supporting documents for future reference, including audits.
  • Performs regular integrity checks of accounting entries and account balances.
  • Participates in monthly closing activities and is responsible for part of them.
  • Provides support to other departments and responds to semi-routine and non-standard inquiries when necessary.
  • Compile pre- and post-closing queries, Inventory Comments, Accounting Comments and Quarterly Balance Sheet Confirmation from subsites for submission to Manilla.
  • Manages Abuja Finance Service Task Management (STM) to ensure proper attributions and allocation of requests for validation and closing of completed requests.
  • Support in processing Bank Payments for submitted accounting documents.
  • Support the cash office in the absence of the cashier.
  • Support functions in pre-loggings, vendor creation, bank reconciliation and Monthly List of Account Reconciliation (LARC)
  • Compile, monitor, remit and make all analysis for Withholding Tax for the Delegation
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a relevant field
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Sound knowledge of accounting software
  • Previous experience working with an INGO is an asset.
  • Applicants should have a Nigerian nationality or hold a working permit.

Desired profile and Skills

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Very well organized, with good planning abilities.
  • Computer literacy; proficient in Microsoft Office software skills (outlook, Excel Power Point, Word).

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a humanitarian institution based in Geneva, Switzerland and a three-time Nobel Prize Laureate. State parties (signatories) to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 1977 (Protocol I, Protocol II) and 2005 have given the ICRC a mandate to protect victims of international and internal armed conflicts. Such victims include war wounded, prisoners, refugees, civilians, and other non-combatants.

The ICRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement along with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and 190 National Societies. It is the oldest and most honoured organization within the Movement and one of the most widely recognized organizations in the world, having won three Nobel Peace Prizes in 1917, 1944, and 1963.
