CONTEXT AND DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

PSP MENA has been operating in the MENA region since 2011, with proven income growth from regular GCC markets. With PSP’s global strategy in place and aiming to raise $1B by 2025, with MENA contributing $100M, PSP MENA is considering expansion into new markets within MENA, including Egypt, which is the top non-GCC country with proven PPH income and potential for growth from PPH and Individual Giving donors.

This incumbent will be responsible for helping to progressively increase income to UNHCR from the private sector in Egypt, with a focus on private philanthropy through the development of an expanding PPH pipeline to start raising minimum USD500K in 2019 and lay solid grounds to raise minimum USDIM by 2020 and minimum USD2M by 2021. The incumbent is expected to maintain and capitalize on existing donors, proactively conduct prospecting and set the strategy for significant growth in Egypt.

The incumbent will be based in Cairo and will be reporting administratively to the representative’s office while operating under the supervision of both the Egypt office and the Senior PSP Officer for Private Philanthropy (PPH) in MENA.

THE INCUMBENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING ASSIGNED DUTIES:

Under the overall supervision of the Senior PSP Officer of Private Philanthropy (PPH) in MENA, and in close coordination and collaboration with the representative’s office in Egypt, the Assistant PSP Officer will be responsible to:

  • Strategy: Develop a two-year strategic plan for private sector partnerships in Egypt, with a focus on but not limited to engagement of major donors and top donors, aiming to raise at least $2M from PPH contributions by the end of 2021.
  • Market/ Prospect Research: Carry out targeted market research to identify sizable giving trends in Egypt, identify prospect donors and guide the strategy and its implementation accordingly.
  • Prospect cultivation: Identify, approach, cultivate and cater to donors and prospect donors in collaboration with the Senior PSP Officer (PPH). This includes but is not limited to written and verbal communication, securing meetings, submitting proposals, organizing field visits, and carrying out activities that lead to multi-year engagement.
  • Fundraising opportunities: Assist in the organization on online/offline lead generation/ fundraising opportunities in conjunction with special events and/or on adhoc basis.
  • Drafting skills: Prepare, draft and finalize donor relevant documents such as project proposals, partnership/ engagement proposals, reports, grant agreements, etc.
  • Fundraising products: identify and adopt existing fundraising products and digital fundraising tools applicable to the Egypt market to engage new prospects and raise funds from existing donors.
  • Field support: Provide PSP MENA with the necessary support to collect information and content from the field in Egypt. Additionally, provide assistance in the production of multimedia content (copywriting, photo, and video) and social media content for digital fundraising purposes.
  • Field missions: Act as focal point for PSP MENA staff for the organization of field missions to Egypt, if any.
  • Legalities: Ensure compliance with the relevant domestic law related to fundraising practice, fundraising licensing and data protection, when needed.
  • The incumbent will also be responsible to maintain the following communication channels:
  • Internal stakeholders: Systemic updates to assure relevant colleagues from the Egypt operation, PSP MENA and other relevant colleagues are involved in the overall strategy setting and implementation.
  • Reporting: Handle monthly and quarterly reports on PSP activities, prospects in Egypt, in addition to achieved income in relation to financial targets.
  • Database: use Salesforce on a daily basis to update necessary donor records with required static and dynamic information, with special attention paid to donation opportunities and logging in communication such as emails, calls and face-to-face meetings.
  • Networking: Build a network of external stakeholders focused on fundraising (including major donors/top donors and influencers), and coordinate with relevant units/roles to respond to requests and provide proper packages for them.
  • The incumbent may be requested to perform ad hoc related duties, as directed by the supervising officer.
  • Perform any other tasks as required.

  • A network of key stakeholders and partners is identified and actively engaged to support fundraising opportunities initiated by the MENA PSP team and the External Relations.
  • A set of engagement activities for Egypt staff initiated to raise awareness on the different joint campaigns and activities between the MENA Digital Hub and the External Relations.
  • Develop a strategic 2-year plan with defined activities and pipeline to raise $2M by 2021.
  • Have in place a well-researched pipeline with majority of HNWIs.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of secondary education preferably with post-secondary training or certificate in social science, statistics, mathematics, information technology or related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant job experience (3 years with post-secondary certificate/training).
  • Good computer skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and local language.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Training in basic principles of international protection.
  • Experience in working with UNHCR proGres software.
  • Knowledge of another relevant UN language.
