MSF – Holland, Kenya office is currently sourcing for a suitable candidate to fill the following position

CASHIER – AT01500

1 POSITION – BASED IN NAIROBI

Main Purpose

Reporting hierarchically to Finance Manager, the incumbent shall be responsible for performing cash transactions, verifying supporting documentation, and maintaining records according to MSF standards and local finance policies.

Specific accountabilities include but are not limited to;

 Assisting in implementation and/or assist in developing additional or new working policies and procedures to meet the demands of an efficiently functioning accounting system for Kenya and in line with the provisions of OCA HQ and MSF OCA Mission Finance policies and procedures

 Checking the validity, accuracy, completeness of documentation and authorization of Bookkeeping prior to any Cash/M-PESA/pre-paid card payment or advance issuance

 Controlling and monitoring cash/MPESA/pre-paid card payments, advances, transfers, monthly cash counts and discrepancies if any from the cashboxes and coding and recording cash transactions in the accounting system in Kenya Office

 Ensuring preparation of invoices for VAT Exemption process via the Protocol Office, VAT reporting, filing and periodic write – offs

 Preparing Monthly VAT report and periodical supplier evaluation report

 Responsible for debt collection and recovery of VAT refund from suppliers

 Responsible for departmental bookkeeping filing and subsequent scanning to HQ as per MSF OCA policy and procedure

Following up on all expiring rental contract dates and inform the relevant persons in order to

leave enough time to arrange renewals or look for some other alternatives

 Attend to all training and meetings connected with the finance function as needed n the absence of the Finance Manager

 Acting as back up for the Fin-Co Assistant as may be requested

 Any other specific task upon request from the Finance Manager or Finance Coordinator

Requirements:

Education

 Diploma in Business Administration or its equivalent

 CPA Part 2

Experience

• Essential 1 – 2 years’ experience as a cashier or accounting.

• MSF experience/unifield experience desired

Languages

 Essential working knowledge of English and Swahili

Knowledge

 Essential – Computer literacy (Outlook, word, excel).

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra. Their aim was to establish an independent organisation that focuses on delivering emergency medicine aid quickly, effectively and impartially.

Doctors Without Borders

Three hundred volunteers made up the organisation when it was founded: doctors, nurses and other staff, including the 13 founding doctors and journalists.

MSF was created in the belief that all people should have access to healthcare regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that people’s medical needs outweigh respect for national boundaries. MSF’s principles of action are described in our charter, which established a framework for our activities.

MSF's first missions

MSF’s first mission was to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, in 1972, after an earthquake destroyed most of the city and killed between 10,000 and 30,000 people.

In 1974, MSF set up a relief mission to help the people of Honduras after Hurricane Fifi caused major flooding and killed thousands of people.

In 1975, MSF established its first large-scale medical programme during a refugee crisis, providing medical care for the waves of Cambodians seeking sanctuary from Pol Pot’s oppressive rule.

In these first missions, the weaknesses of MSF as a new humanitarian organisation became readily apparent: preparation was lacking, doctors were left unsupported and supply chains were tangled.
