Climate Action Partnership Officer

Location: Kigali, Rwanda

One-year contract, with potential for extension

Role Summary:

Last Mile Climate in collaboration with ALIGHT Rwanda is seeking a Partnership Officer to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the SOLCO Partnership for solar-powered e-cooking in Rwanda. The Partnership officer will be hosted and co-supervised by ALIGHT Rwanda, the Partnership Officer will coordinate with stakeholders and partners to ensure the successful transition of refugee and host community households to sustainable electric cooking solutions at scale.

The job offers a purpose-driven role starting and leading the Rwandan chapter of a dynamic multi-stakeholder global partnership that is fully funded for at least the next three years. You will be part of an innovative and supportive work environment and work with a diverse and global team with rich experiences in climate-impacted communities, including several team members with lived experience of forced displacement. Finally, you will engage with a network of leading global organizations and thinkers from the more than 26 organizations that to date are partners of SOLCO globally.

Key Working Relationships

The Partnership Officer will have a matrix reporting; The Regional Programme Manager, Last Mile Climate and Executive Director, ALIGHT Rwanda Office. The Partnership Officer will works closely with wider team members for both entities.
Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary liaison for Last Mile Climate and ALIGHT with SOLCO partners in Rwanda, including government bodies, UN agencies, private sector companies, and civil society organizations.
  • Partnership Development: Cultivate and strengthen relationships with existing and potential partners to enhance support for the SOLCO initiative.
  • Event Coordination: Organize and facilitate workshops, meetings, and other stakeholder engagements to foster dialogue and partnership on solar electric cooking solutions.
  • Funding Facilitation: Identify opportunities to secure grant funding and debt/equity financing for SOLCO Partners to support the implementation of SOLCO in Rwanda.
  • Communication and Reporting: Ensure consistent and effective communication between Last Mile Climate’s global team and local partners.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in partnership and project management.
  • Proven ability to manage diverse stakeholder groups and facilitate complex discussions.
  • Strong network within the Rwandan energy, policy, or humanitarian sectors and understanding of Rwandan context.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and climate action.
  • High proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Kinyarwanda proficiency is advantageous.
  • Prior experience from the humanitarian sector, energy and/or climate initiatives.
  • Personal or professional experience related to forced displacement or working in challenging environments.
  • Experience in collaborating with and supporting national and/or community-based partners in Rwanda
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate across a variety of relationships in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate equally effectively with colleagues in remote and diverse teams
  • Candidates who are from the region and/or have significant experience in the region, including lives experience of displacement, are strongly encouraged to apply.
