Position: Communications Manager

Job Location: Monrovia, Liberia with Field Travels

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Purpose and Scope:

The incumbent will be responsible to support the formulation and implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies to increase the positioning and visibility of BRAC with partners, the media and the public, including managing external communication channels such as social media platforms, organizational websites and media relations, content creation for newsletters or memos and adhering to brand guidelines before publishing content and marketing materials. He/ She will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of both internal and external communication strategies.

This role will have a close relationship with all programme and department Heads, Regional and Provincial Managers, dotted reporting to the BRAC International Head Office Communications team, and direct reporting to the Program Manager – AIM. Communications Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a flexible, outcome-focused communications strategy.
  • Build internal communications plans and support leadership in enhancing employee engagement.
  • Support the development of communications strategies for key programs, working to raise awareness of BRAC’s mission and maintain a favorable public image.
  • Perform communications research and monitor the effectiveness of various strategies to inform future improvements.

Content Creation and Management:

  • Generate ideas and create compelling content for digital and social media channels.
  • Write and edit participant/client stories, video scripts, blogs, case studies, factsheets, capacity statements, and annual reports.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar and oversee the monthly and yearly content production.
  • Support the development of presentations, speeches, talking points, and promotional materials, including newsletters, website articles, and videos.

Reputation and Crisis Management:

  • Build the capacity of country program staff for crisis communication and brand management, including developing training materials on brand guidelines and best practices.
  • Conceive and implement media strategies to enhance BRAC’s positioning with media, government ministries, partner organisations, and donors.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:

  • Develop networks and alliances with institutions, civil society, strategic partners, and potential members in collaboration with the Country Director and Fundraising Manager.
  • Liaise with media outlets to ensure effective dissemination of BRAC’s key messages, including preparing press releases and coordinating media coverage.

Advocacy and Campaigns:

  • Collaborate closely with the Advocacy, Partnership, and Knowledge Coordinator to integrate advocacy communications into programming.
  • Develop and implement communications plans to support advocacy campaigns, ensuring impactful, targeted, and timely messaging.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data collection for advocacy and communications reporting.

Monitoring, Reporting and Field Support:

  • Regularly monitor BRAC’s country-specific web pages and sections to keep information current in collaboration with the Head Office Communications team.
  • Conduct field visits to assess program implementation, offering technical advice to enhance the quality of communications.
  • Prepare high-quality, data-driven communications reports on field activities.

Education & Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in the development or humanitarian sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communication

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent conceptual and analytical skills with regards to safeguarding
  • Experience of providing technical guidance and supportive supervision to a large geographically dispersed team
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding policies and international standards and best practices
  • Ability to build trust among stakeholders and maintain the highest level of integrity, confidentiality and sensitivity
  • Experience of supporting complex and sensitive safeguarding investigations
  • Ability to work strategically with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Capable of working both individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent relationship management skills and ability to communicate in all forms (written, verbal, negotiation, presentation skills)
  • Ability to prioritise and deal with competing demands to deliver results
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills

Safeguarding

  • Read, understand, practice, promote, and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve program goals of safeguarding implementation
  • Act as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment
  • Practice, promote, and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure for reportable incidents and encourage others to do the same

Through this partnership, scalable economic development approaches will be delivered in communities to foster the agency and voice of AGYW. They will have the opportunity to fulfill their aspirations, achieve sustainable livelihoods, and engage in advocacy issues.

BRAC International will implement an integrated and holistic model to address the various life cycles of a young woman living in poverty, ensuring she can transition safely from adolescence to adulthood. She will be equipped with the appropriate skills, tools, and access to finance to effectively exercise her agency and build a fulfilling and productive livelihood. In preparation for the launch of the programme, BRAC International is seeking applications from competent, dynamic, and self-motivated individuals to fill the following position.
