The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) was established through an Act of the Parliament in 1960 to complement public authorities in humanitarian interventions with the mandate to prevent and alleviate human suffering at times of peace or conflict, and to support individuals and communities to respond effectively to emergencies, without any form of discrimination as to class, gender, race, political opinions or religion.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Communications Officer (NRCS Social Enterprise)

Location: Abuja

Job Purpose

  • The Communications Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to support the fundraising and resource mobilization efforts of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
  • The role involves creating compelling content, engaging stakeholders, managing media relations, and promoting donor engagement to enhance the organization’s visibility and funding opportunities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Content Development & Storytelling:

  • Create impact-driven communication materials showcasing the organization’s humanitarian work.
  • Develop success stories, case studies, donor reports, and fundraising appeals.
  • Write and edit press releases, newsletters, articles, and website content.

Media & Public Relations:

  • Manage relationships with media outlets and journalists to enhance coverage.
  • Organize press conferences, interviews, and media briefings related to fundraising initiatives.
  • Develop and distribute press releases, media kits, and donor recognition stories.

Digital & Social Media Engagement:

  • Manage and grow social media platforms to promote fundraising campaigns.
  • Create engaging multimedia content (videos, graphics, testimonials, etc.).
  • Monitor online trends and optimize digital fundraising strategies.

Donor Engagement & Fundraising Campaigns:

  • Design and implement communication strategies for donor outreach and retention.
  • Develop promotional materials for fundraising events, grant proposals, and sponsorships.
  • Support the production of campaign videos, donor recognition materials, and event branding.

Internal & Stakeholder Communications:

  • Coordinate communication between fundraising teams, partners, and donors.
  • Ensure messaging aligns with the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s brand and mission.
  • Develop briefing materials for leadership on fundraising engagements.

Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Track media coverage, campaign performance, and donor engagement metrics.
  • Prepare communication impact reports for fundraising initiatives.
  • Assess and improve strategies based on data-driven insights.

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in communication, preferably in nonprofits or humanitarian organizations.
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and content creation skills.
  • Experience managing media relations and digital campaigns.
  • Proficiency in social media management and graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe, etc.).
  • Knowledge of fundraising and donor engagement strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.

Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) is on the ground with our volunteers helping fellow Nigerians affected by the ongoing devastating floods across 34 out of 37 states.

A rapid assessment conducted by our 37 Branches across the country shows that at least 241,000 households have been affected with over 19,000 households displaced.

Many of the affected persons, who are yet to come to terms with the situation they found themselves, are in makeshift camps set up in schools or with host communities and in dire need of food, cloth and other basic life support. Their means of livelihood and homes have been wiped out. They have no safe drinking water. Thus, cholera outbreak has been announced in six states.
