Position Summary
Reporting to the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator, the Community Mobilization Officer will be responsible for overseeing all community entry procedures with various stakeholders at provincial, district, ward and village level. The Community Mobilization Officer will also lead all Enumeration Area (EA) level sensitization and mobilization activities. This is a grant funded contract which may or may not be renewed depending on need.
Responsibilities
- Set up and conduct entry procedure meetings.
- Identify correct EAs using survey maps.
- Identify local EA level leaders and sensitize them about the survey.
- Establish and maintain good relations with local health centres.
- Identify, train and supervise Community-based Mobilisers in each EA.
- Assist Community-based mobilizers to motivate communities for active participation and sustainability of survey activities.
- Run talking sessions in selected public locations to create awareness on the benefits of ZIMPHIA to the community
- Facilitate mass meetings to motivate local participation in the survey.
- Manage the distribution of brochures and information pamphlets at EA level.
- Organize EA entry meetings and introduce the survey team to the community.
- Provide team leaders with guidance on EA infrastructure like roads, accommodation and mobile networks available in the EA.
- Monitor community perceptions, provide feedback, and resolve issues related to negative community perceptions.
- Compile monthly community mobilization reports
- Support the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator in facilitating and convening ZIMPHIA national and provincial launches
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in Health Promotion, Communications, Media, Sociology or Development Studies or equivalent
- A well-established personal commitment to public health issues particularly HIV and AIDS;
- At least 1-2 years of experience in Community Mobilization, Health promotion and/or communications for development,
- Exposure in health and survey communications is desirable;
- Marketing background a plus
- Experience of working with communities and implementation of community mobilization strategies would be an added advantage.
- Previous PHIA experience is an added advantage
Travel Requirements
- Periodic domestic travel throughout Zimbabwe to support the planning and implementation of the PHIA Project
