SOS Children’s Villages East and Southern Africa (ESAF) region, headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, provides support to 26 member associations in all work areas including programme implementation, advocacy, fundraising and governance.

SOS CVI East and Southern Africa believes that the successful achievement of its purpose, vision, and mission depends on the competence, commitment and engagement of its staff, which requires having strong and strategic HR managers and team. Many of the member associations in the region are developing their country strategies with a highly expected support required from HR managers on people and organizational management and development strategy. In view of this anticipated demand and objective of empowering HR managers with contemporary knowledge and skills on strategic HR management covering the HR management cycle.To service this objective, SOS CVI ESAF is looking for a competent and befitting training and consulting firm to conduct a 3 days training on HR business Partnering with a focus on organization development and re-design and change management processes for its HR professionals.

2. Objectives

The overall purpose of the training is to enhance the strategic HR management competencies of HR managers and professionals and equipe them dynamic and contemporary effective HR concepts and strategies to enable them deliver on their mandate and contribute to delivery of organizational missions in the rapidly changing environmental landscape.

3. Scope and duration of the Training

The consultant is expected to design training materials as per the specifications outlined in this TOR, deliver the training for three (3) consecutive days from October 21 – October 23, 2024 in a workshop scenario in Regional Training Centre located Nairobi, Kenya, submit training evaluation and reports and provide coaching for participants during the duration of the training. Subject to availability of budget first round training feedback, the organization may decide to run a continuing 2nd round training in 2025.

4. Target Group

Target participants for this training are National Association HR managers and regional HR advisors group. Participants size will be 35 – 40

5. Specific Tasks and Deliverables

  • Conduct a quick pre training virtual assessment, based on the profile of the participants
  • Development/refinement of learning objectives, methods and tools, based on a clear understanding of the TOR & participants’ assessment results and discussion and feedback form client focal person;
  • Conduct pre and post-training tests and submit the results;
  • Prepare, submit and present a well-organized training material including provide reading references list and links to relevant links at least one week ahead of the programme
  • Provide strong content input, clear instructions/directions for class exercises.
  • Develop and conduct training evaluation and deliver training report capturing key lessons, discussions, cases, all covered content and recommendation for next steps
  • Develop the list of equipment/materials which are necessary to carry out the training.
  • Certificate of completion for trainees.

6. Modules/topics to be covered

  • Understanding HR function maturity levels and transitioning from HROD to people and culture
  • Current trends and dynamics in HRM including impact of AI to the HR function and role – how to leverage it.
  • Developing HR (people and culture) strategies – concepts and practices – case studies
  • Effective HR management as driver of organizational performance and culture
  • Employee engagement, employee experience and retention strategies and processes – the role of HR function
  • Organizational design, aligning structure to strategy and organizational efficiency
  • Management of change, change frameworks and step by step processes, practices in support of organizational redesign
  • Measurement and Analytics in data driven HR.
  • Performance management and succession planning

7. Methodology

The consultant/trainer will propose participatory methodology suitable for adult learning and prepare detail contents topics of the training along with methodology including exercises and case studies. Consultant/trainer will work closely with the designated focal team in assessing needs and developing the relevant training methodology, materials and delivering the face-to-face training in Nairobi, Kenya.

8. Skills and Competencies

IOR ESAF is looking for an experienced consulting firm with strong practical and training experience in the area of People management. Applicants will be shortlisted based upon their expression of interest, budget and CV of the trainers/facilitators and organizational profile.

The marking system will consider:

  • At least two experienced trainers with experiences in HR subject matter and training facilitation, particularly in the areas identified in the TOR.
  • Have at least 10 years’ or more experience in human resources management, HR business partnering and at leadership level, experience in organisational development, in designing HR strategies or related filed preferably in international organisations similar to SOS Children’s Villages International
  • Must have facilitated similar (strategic HR management and Leadership, etc.) trainings to HR professionals and senior level HR managers;
  • Demonstrate familiarity and understanding with the regional and operational context in which SOS Children’s’ Villages (Eastern and Southern Africa region) operates;
  • Have a high level of facilitation and communication skills in English;
  • Relevant module development and training methodology applied.

9. Timeframe and venue

The training is planned to take place in Nairobi, Kenya. The assignment includes developing of materials & presentations conducting the training and writing report. A guiding schedule of selection process is outlined below:

  1. By 22 September 2024: Submission of expression of interest and application package as per the TOR.
  2. 27 September 2024: Selection of consultant.
  3. 07 October 2024: Submission of inception report to SOS Children’s Villages, after desk review of relevant documentation and virtual kick-off with the designated focal person, along with assessment of participants’ needs through virtual means.
  4. 14 October 2024: Submit training module, presentation slides, and all other relevant training materials in editable formats.
  5. 21 October 2024: Deliver face-to-face HR Strategic Leadership training in person.
  6. 04 November 2024: Feedback report submitted to SOS Children’s Villages capturing the learning journey, key contents, discussions, lessons learned, and action plans.

10. Requirements

SOS Children’s Villages-ESAF is looking for an international/national consulting firm to develop and conduct Strategic HR Leadership training phase II for HR Managers and professionals in the member association

Applicant firms will be shortlisted based on their expression of interest, technical and financial proposal. Among others, the marking system will look at the following:

  • Must have a strong background in human resources management and organizational development.
  • Must have facilitated similar (strategic HR management, strategic HR Leadership, etc.) trainings to HR professionals and senior level HR managers organized by or for an international organization;
  • Previous experience in Africa (advantageous if the experience is particularly in Easter and southern Africa context)
  • Presentation and report writing skills and fluency in English both written and verbal communications.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills
  • Master trainer certification from recognized institution will be an advantage
  • Valid certificate of consultancy services;
  • Valid Tax Registration Certificate (indicating TIN and VAT Number);
  • Full and accurate physical, postal, telephone, and email addresses.
