Organisation Description: Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. (www.thejohanniter.org) is a German Christian non-governmental organisation, dedicated to excellence in the field of first aid, ambulance service, social service programmes and other projects in the medical and social field. The Federal Headquarters are based in Berlin, Germany. Johanniter International Assistance is the operational unit for humanitarian aid, development co-operation and emergency relief, implementing and supporting projects in Health, Nutrition, WASH as well as Food Security & Income Generation worldwide.
Background
The overall objective of Johanniter in South Sudan is to reduce people’s vulnerability, specifically through contributing to morbidity and mortality reduction by improving the population’s health and nutrition status. Furthermore, improved access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and protection services are an existential part of Johanniter’s South Sudan programme. At present, Johanniter runs four integrated projects in Western Bahr el Ghazal State (WBeG) and Eastern Equatoria State of South Sudan focusing on maternal and basic health, nutrition (CMAM), WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods, and GBV/Protection. Funding is secured through the German Federal Foreign Office, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, UN organisations (FAO, UNICEF) as well as a variety of private foundations. One of our strategic goals is to continue our comprehensive programme through to 2026/2027 and beyond, while seeking opportunities to expand our programmes in other areas of South Sudan.
In a Nutshell
- We are looking for an experienced Consortium Coordinator to Strategically coordinate and strengthen the consortium’s collective delivery of the BMZ-TDA funded resilience pro-gram across Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia, ensuring coherence, complementarity, quality and accountability across partners and countries.
- The role provides strategic leadership, coordination and representation, aligning consortium partners around shared priorities, facilitating cross-border learning and decision-making, managing key relationships with BMZ and other stakeholders, and ensuring the programme delivers integrated HDP Nexus outcomes, cross-country added value and sustainable resilience impact.
- Success in this role depends on your technical expertise, strong influencing skills, and ability to work collaboratively.
What you will do:
Consortium Coordination
- Act as the primary liaison between consortium partners, donors, and stakeholders
- Facilitate regular coordination meetings and ensure timely information sharing
- Support harmonization of approaches, tools, and standards across consortium members
Project Management
- Ensure consortium activities meet contractual obligations
- Coordinate joint reporting and consolidate inputs from consortium partners
- Monitor project implementation and flag risks or challenges to consortium leadership.
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to the development of consortium strategies
- Identify opportunities for collaboration and expansion of consortium activities
- Support advocacy efforts and representation of the consortium at national and international levels
Capacity Building
- Strengthen coordination mechanisms and build partner capacity
- Provide technical support to consortium members on donor compliance and reporting.
Representation, Communication, Liaison, and Networking
- Represent the consortium in relevant coordination, donor and technical forums across Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia, as delegated.
- Facilitate effective communication, information sharing and coordination among consortium partners, country teams and programme structures.
- Promote equitable participation of all INGO and NNGO partners in planning, decision-making, coordination and learning.
- Coordinate development and dissemination of joint strategies, workplans, reports, advocacy and communication products.
- Maintain strategic relationships with government authorities, UN agencies, civil society, donors and other relevant stakeholders.
- Promote cross-country learning and collaboration in support of the HDP Nexus, resilience and anticipatory action objectives.
- Ensure transparent decision-making, timely reporting, effective information flow and follow-up across the consortium.
Safeguarding
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and ensure that safeguarding principles are integrated across consortium activities. This includes promoting a safe environment for staff and People We work With, ensuring partner compliance with safeguarding policies, and promptly reporting any safeguarding concerns through appropriate channels,
Gender
- Ensure that consortium coordination and project delivery are implemented in a gender-responsive and inclusive manner, promoting equal participation and opportunities for people of all genders
What you bring:
- Master’s degree in development, humanitarian affairs, international relations, program management, DRR, public health or related field.
- 3-5 years’ senior experience in humanitarian, development, resilience, peacebuilding or HDP Nexus programming.
- Proven leadership of complex multi-country, multi-partner/consortium programmes, including INGO-NNGO partnerships.
- Experience with BMZ-funded programmes, preferably TDA, including compliance and donor reporting.
- Strong experience in fragile/conflict-affected and displacement contexts, including HDP Nexus, resilience, adaptive management and systems strengthening.
- Experience in regional/cross-border programming, risk analysis and integrated sectoral programming.
- Proven track record in localisation, partnership strengthening and stakeholder engagement with donors, governments and UN agencies.
- Experience in Sudan, South Sudan and/or Ethiopia highly desirable.
