Topic – consultancy to conduct a gender and conflict analysis along the coast of Liberia
Key tasks:
The consultant is responsible to work closely with CI-L staff to gather relevant information on gender
roles and cultural context specific to coastal Liberia to inform the formation of BOP strategies.
Information on gender dynamics should be gathered through (a) primary sources such as field visits,
focus groups, interviews, meetings and consultations with target groups and local experts, and surveys,
as well as (b) secondary sources such as a desktop/literature review.
Details are as below:
a) Phase 1: Review secondary information sources and review any previously completed gender
analysis that may exist, interview other organizations (humanitarian/development, etc) to gather
their insights and tools on gender, and complete an overarching assessment of gender in Liberia
based on available information
b) Phase 2: Conduct primary research through interviews and focus groups in select coastal
communities to gather insights into gender and conflict dynamics in coastal Liberia
c) Phase 3: Analyse data/information gathered from primary sources
d) Phase 4: Draft gender analysis per deliverable specifications found in this TOR for review by CI
e) Phase 5: Final gender and conflict Analysis examining gender dynamics in coastal Liberia
completed
The consultant is expected to work collaboratively with CI-L staff throughout the period of performance
and seek review and approval at key stages in the process. The consultant will be required to have weekly
meetings key CI-L staff members and maintain close communication throughout the period of
performance
Qualification:
- Advanced degree or extensive experience in a relevant discipline, including gender, international development, and environment.
- Experience conducting gender or social analyses and/or researching gender/social issues within the context of Liberia.
- Professional experience in working on gender mainstreaming at the institutional and project levels, including project management, knowledge generation, and results-based management.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience on different gender responsive tools and approaches and applying them effectively at institutional and project levels.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with networks in the gender, development, and environment fields.
- Proven communication and facilitation skills with varied stakeholders and audiences.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Professionalism: flexibility to make ad-hoc changes as and when the need arises; ability to perform under stress; willingness to keep flexible working hours.
