A. DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

SIHA is looking for a legal expert to support the development of internal and external consultancy contact templates. SIHA is regularly working with various experts and consultants that support different project aspects including project assessments and evaluations, training and facilitation,. SIHA has grown in its size of projects and staff over the last year and therefore is in need to revise all existing contracts and create clear, legally comprehensive templates. The consultant is expected to revise existing documents and develop generic templates that can be adopted for the needed types of assignments listed below:

  1. Short-term consultancies (training, research, baseline/evaluation, facilitator, rapporteur, interpreter, etc)
  2. MoUs for service delivery (6-12 month contracts for service delivery from selected service providers)
  3. Long-term and short-term staff contracts (part-time, full-time)
  4. Contract addendums (for extended durations, revisions)
  5. Honorariums

Key tasks for the assignment

  1. Revision of existing contracts
  2. Development of new contracts for different types of assignments
  3. Submission of contracts to responsible SIHA staff including two feedback loops (if needed)
  4. Presentation and briefing of all templates to responsible SIHA staff
  5. Service contracts (e.g. printing houses, designers)

B. KEY DELIVERABLES

  1. Finalized contract templates for the different tasks
  2. Tools for staff to fill when requesting for consultancy services

C. BUDGET

The consultant is required to provide a budget proposal in line with the deliverables. **

D. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

The consultant is expected to hold the following qualifications in order to be eligible for this assignment:

● Relevant academic qualification preferably a university degree in Law

● In depth experience with development of contracts

● An understanding of civil society or non-governmental organisations and their needs

● A strong commitment to delivering timely and high-quality results

● Good communication skills and ability to communicate in timely manner

● Excellent editing and writing skills in English language;

● Proven accuracy and attention to detail;

● Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and work well with diverse and multicultural supervisors and staff members;

● Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

E. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA Network) is a regional network of civil society organizations from Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Somaliland, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Uganda working to address women’s subordination and inequality in the region. Established in 1995 by a coalition of women’s rights activists, SIHA is deeply embedded in the fight to strengthen grassroots women’s movements in the region, specifically by addressing the root causes of violence against women and girls and further exposing the causes of their alienation in various contexts. As a network of grassroots community-based organizations, SIHA believes that gender inequality and GBV is a societal challenge rather than simply a women’s issue.
