We are seeking a Correspondent (f/m/d) for our DW Bureau Lagos in Nigeria as of 1 May 2025 or as soon as possible on the basis of a freelance contract limited for two years.

THE ROLE

  • reporting and analysis on current events in West Africa (politics, economy, culture) for all Deutsche Welle outlets
  • producing reports and background packages (TV, online) from West Africa
  • live interviews and broadcasts for TV (in English)
  • creation of multimedia content for the social media platforms of DW
  • development of background programmes about West Africa and the region
  • organization of conversations as well as conducting interviews with relevant figures

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • university degree as well as completed traineeship or comparable journalistic qualification
  • longstanding professional journalistic experience, including experience as foreign correspondent, preferably for public media organizations
  • ability to analyze political and geostrategic contexts
  • very good knowledge of the political systems and social and cultural context in West Africa, previous experience in the region an advantage
  • understanding of processes of news and social media departments, preferably of media organizations like DW
  • experience as video journalist and mobile reporter
  • professional language proficiency in English, additional German language skills a plus
  • excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to work in interdisciplinary and diverse teams, high level of intercultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
